The descent of that ayya was as follows:— . .Honna-Gavunda was his<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r and Jakka-Gavundi his mo<strong>the</strong>r. Then follow <strong>the</strong> verses <strong>in</strong> praise of<br />

him, his wife and sons, as at <strong>the</strong> end of No 137 above, with some additions.<br />

The descent of Adi-Gavunda's guru was as follows:—In <strong>the</strong> Dramilasangha,<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>guished was. .dra-svami, [whose disciple wasl Vasupujya-tnuni,<br />

whose disciple was Perumale-deva<br />

For whom he made a lofty basadi, and sett<strong>in</strong>g up <strong>the</strong> god <strong>the</strong>re<strong>in</strong>, to<br />

provide for <strong>the</strong> eight k<strong>in</strong>ds of ceremonies for <strong>the</strong> god, gifts of food to <strong>the</strong> rishis.<br />

and repairs of <strong>the</strong> temple, granted certa<strong>in</strong> lands (specified), and (on <strong>the</strong> date<br />

specified) all <strong>the</strong> Brahmans of Kondali, with Adi-Gavunda, his sons, and <strong>the</strong><br />

fifty families of <strong>the</strong> village, made <strong>the</strong>m over to Perumale-de'va.<br />

worshippers of <strong>the</strong> twice-born, gurus and gods, and were fully versed m <strong>the</strong><br />

Rig, Yajus, Sama and Atharvvana vedas, as well as <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir mean<strong>in</strong>g ano!<br />

<strong>in</strong> all <strong>the</strong> hdsiras, — she, after worship of <strong>the</strong>ir feet, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> year Kilaka, paid<br />

<strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> yearly fixed rent of 8 honnu, and for <strong>the</strong> construction on <strong>the</strong> land<br />

thus acquired of a tank, a temple, and a watch-house for <strong>the</strong> fields, deposited<br />

562 gadyana 3 pan a, undertak<strong>in</strong>g to defray any extra taxes. (Boundaries of<br />
