two; to be addicted to o<strong>the</strong>rs' wives, three; to give up refugees, four; to leave<br />

suppliauts unsatisfied, five, to forsake those to whom he is bound, six; to live <strong>in</strong><br />

tredchory to his lord, seven : — those are <strong>the</strong> seven narakas (or hells) says Ganga.<br />

To Gaiiga-chamupati and to Nagala-Devi was born a son, Boppa-chamupa<br />

(his praises) *<br />

(To describe) <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e of his guru: — From Gautama-ganadhara was<br />

descended <strong>the</strong> celebrated Maladhan-deva, of <strong>the</strong> Kondakundanvaya. That munt-<br />

svaia's disciple Subhachandra-deva was <strong>the</strong> guru of Boppa, <strong>the</strong> possessor of<br />

<strong>the</strong> valiant qualities of Ganga-Raja. A moon <strong>in</strong> rais<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tide of <strong>the</strong> ocean <strong>the</strong><br />

J<strong>in</strong>a-dharmma, achtiryja of <strong>the</strong> Ganga-mandala, was Piabhachandra-deva-<br />

saiddhantika. He was Boppa-Deva's guru for div<strong>in</strong>e worship<br />

This Jma temple, which even Jalajabhava (Brahma) could not excel <strong>in</strong><br />

diaw<strong>in</strong>g, carv<strong>in</strong>g and mould<strong>in</strong>g, and which shone like <strong>the</strong> silver mounta<strong>in</strong><br />

(Kailasa), an ornament to <strong>the</strong> earth, —did <strong>the</strong> lord Boppa-Deva erect <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

middle of Dorasamudra, <strong>the</strong> greatest of royal cities As a memoiial of Ganga-<br />

Raja's death, Boppa set up <strong>the</strong> god (on <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>the</strong> consecratoj<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g Nayakirtti-siddhanta-chakravartti, (his praises)<br />

After <strong>the</strong> consecration of this Drohagharatta J<strong>in</strong>alaya' of <strong>the</strong> sri-Mula-<br />

sangha, Desiya-gana, Pustaka-gachchha, Kondakundanvaya and Hanasoge-bah,<br />

when <strong>the</strong> priests (<strong>in</strong>drar) took <strong>the</strong> consecrated food (seshe) to Vishnuvarddhana-<br />

Deva at Bankapuia, —at that time, <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu hav<strong>in</strong>g defeated and sla<strong>in</strong><br />

Masana, who fell upon him <strong>in</strong> battle with unequalled forces, and seized <strong>the</strong><br />

whole of his empire, — and to (<strong>the</strong> queen) Lakshmi-mahadevi a son hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

been born, vuth <strong>the</strong> qualities of Dasaratha and Nairnsha, (and o<strong>the</strong>r praises), -<br />

Vishnu-Deva be<strong>in</strong>g thus filled with joy on account of both his victory and<br />

<strong>the</strong> birth of a son, see<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> priests who had brought <strong>the</strong> sandal water and<br />

consecrated food from <strong>the</strong> consecration of <strong>the</strong> god Parsva, ho ordered <strong>the</strong>m to<br />

approach and ris<strong>in</strong>g to meet <strong>the</strong>m, saluted <strong>the</strong>m with jo<strong>in</strong>ed hands to his<br />

forehead, and took <strong>the</strong> sandal water and consecrated food, say<strong>in</strong>g, "By <strong>the</strong><br />

merit of <strong>the</strong> consecration of this god I have obta<strong>in</strong>ed both a victory and <strong>the</strong><br />

birth of a son, and have been filled with joy". He <strong>the</strong>iefore gavo to <strong>the</strong> god<br />

<strong>the</strong> name of Vijaya-Parsva, and to his son <strong>the</strong> name of Vijaya-Narasimha-Deva.<br />

And for <strong>the</strong> prosperity of his son and for <strong>the</strong> promotion of universal peace<br />

he made a grant of Javagal <strong>in</strong> Asandi-nad, and various o<strong>the</strong>r grants (specified),<br />

to provide for <strong>the</strong> ceremonies and ano<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> three seasons of <strong>the</strong> god<br />

Vijaya-Parsva and <strong>the</strong> twenty-four Tirthanathas, <strong>the</strong> repair of <strong>the</strong>ir basadi,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> food of <strong>the</strong> ascetics.<br />

And <strong>the</strong> oilman Dasa-Gaunda made a grant of land for <strong>the</strong> god to <strong>the</strong><br />

priest Santi-deva. Also at <strong>the</strong> uttardyana sankramana, Dasa-Gaunda and<br />

Rama-Gaunda made o<strong>the</strong>r grants (specified) to <strong>the</strong> priest Santayya for <strong>the</strong><br />

eight k<strong>in</strong>ds of ceremonies of <strong>the</strong> god Parsva Praise of Santa.<br />
