When (with usual titles, as above) Vishnuvarddhana-Hoysala-Deva was<br />

rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world —(on <strong>the</strong> date specified), <strong>the</strong> jeweller citizens<br />

young and old of <strong>the</strong> three capitals, <strong>the</strong> great city Dorasamudra, Beluhur<br />

and Vishnusamudra, be<strong>in</strong>g present, <strong>the</strong>y granted for <strong>the</strong> god M<strong>in</strong>ikesvara <strong>the</strong><br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g dues (spocifiod l) ). Obeisance to Siva.<br />

And (on <strong>the</strong> date specified) all <strong>the</strong> Desis (many names given) granted for<br />

<strong>the</strong> god Manikesvara certa<strong>in</strong> dues (specified).<br />

When (with usual titles) Hoysala vira-Ballala-Deva (on <strong>the</strong> date specified,—<br />

22nd of July 1173) was crowned, — it be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Karkkataka-sankramana<br />

(or passage of <strong>the</strong> sun <strong>in</strong>to Cancer) and vyatipata,— he made for <strong>the</strong> god<br />

Manikesvara a grant of Hiriya-Belugah <strong>in</strong> Sige-nad, free of all imposts.<br />

Praise of Sambhu.<br />

Like <strong>the</strong> sun (Aditya) <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> eastern mounta<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> Yadava-kula, illum<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> world with his glory, arose <strong>the</strong> brave Vmayaditya, whose son<br />

(omitt<strong>in</strong>g laudations) was Ereyanga. His son was <strong>the</strong> emperor of <strong>the</strong> world<br />

Vishnu, who by <strong>the</strong> might of his arm cut down <strong>the</strong> evil doers up to <strong>the</strong><br />

boundary of Kanchi on <strong>the</strong> east, <strong>the</strong> noted Kongu on <strong>the</strong> south, <strong>the</strong> shore of<br />

<strong>the</strong> ocean on <strong>the</strong> west, <strong>the</strong> Krishna and Venna rivers on <strong>the</strong> north, and<br />

sett<strong>in</strong>g up piles (of stones) as marks of <strong>the</strong> permanent limits of <strong>the</strong> land,<br />

by his valour he brought it <strong>in</strong>to subjection, and was celebrated for <strong>the</strong> sports<br />

of his bravery. His son was Narasimha, whose son, like an eleventh Muran<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Kali ago, was Ballala. Hav<strong>in</strong>g ? sacked Devadurgga, which formerly<br />

<strong>the</strong> Chola k<strong>in</strong>g (or <strong>the</strong> Chola named Narendra) had made certa<strong>in</strong> could not bo<br />

taken, he by his valour captured Uchchangi, toge<strong>the</strong>r with all <strong>the</strong> empire of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Paydya k<strong>in</strong>g, —this Trmetra to <strong>the</strong> Tnpura hostile hill-forts, <strong>the</strong> brave<br />

k<strong>in</strong>g Ballala. When (with usual titles) Hoysala vira-Balla}a-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

royal city Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> peace and<br />

wisdom: —<br />

Dwellers at his lotus feet, <strong>the</strong> citizens of Hannavana, (<strong>the</strong>ir praises and<br />

names) made a grant as follows for <strong>the</strong> god Nakaresvara (here follow <strong>the</strong><br />

details).<br />

isanasakti-mum's eon was KalyanaSakti, whose eon was Devdndra, whose<br />

younger bro<strong>the</strong>r was isanasakti-brattsa. (Here follows a fur<strong>the</strong>r grant, to<br />
