Date 1198 A. D<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> Poysalas, lords of Dvaravati, hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tiger crest, born <strong>in</strong><br />

Sasapura, was V<strong>in</strong>ayaditya. To his son Ereyanga and to fichala-Devi were<br />

born Ballala, Vishnu and Udayaditya. Among <strong>the</strong>m, to describe <strong>the</strong> valour<br />

of k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu —<strong>the</strong> Tulu country, Chakragotta, Talavanapuia, Uchchangi,<br />

Kolala, <strong>the</strong> Seven Male, Vallur, Kanchi, Kongu, <strong>the</strong> terrible Hadiya-ghatta,<br />

Bayal-mid, Nilaehala-duigga, Rayaiayapura, Teieyur, Koyatur, <strong>the</strong> Gondavadi-sthala,—<br />

tliese did he take with a frown, <strong>the</strong> mighty k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu. To<br />

him was born Narasimha, who by Echala-Devi had a son Ballala Moisten<strong>in</strong>g<br />

his valiant sword with <strong>the</strong> blood of his enemy <strong>the</strong> Pandya k<strong>in</strong>g, he whets it<br />

on <strong>the</strong> gr<strong>in</strong>dstone <strong>the</strong> head of Billama, and shea<strong>the</strong>s it <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lotus mouth of<br />

Jaitugi, — <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Ballaja.<br />

When (with usual titles) <strong>the</strong> nissarika-piatapa-Hoysana vira-Ballala-Deva<br />

was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> immemorial agrahara Kukkanfir-koppa, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong><br />

earth <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom:—(On <strong>the</strong> date specified) for <strong>the</strong> god Harihara<br />

set up by Chandi-Setti of Bachalesvara, Cliandi received from <strong>the</strong> hands<br />

of <strong>the</strong> emperor of <strong>the</strong> South, vira-Ballala-Deva, 10 gadyana from <strong>the</strong> fixed<br />

rent of Bachalesvara, and presented it for that god Harihara, to cont<strong>in</strong>ue as<br />

long as sun, moon and stars<br />

Praise of Magi-Setti of Badavi; whose son was Kete-Setti. His wife was<br />

Rechehiyakka, and <strong>the</strong>y had a son Chandayya, whose wife was Mukavve<br />

In Bachalesvara and o<strong>the</strong>r great towns did he erect temples for Hara<br />

A far<strong>the</strong>r giant by Chandi-Setti <strong>in</strong> Brahmasamudra, and grants by o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

Praise of Sambhu (On <strong>the</strong> date specified), when <strong>the</strong> maharajadhnaja<br />

raja-paramesvara vira-pratapa Krishna-Deva-Raya-mahauiya was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

residence of Hatnpe, luhng <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: — Basavappa-<br />

Nayaka, son of Jakkana-Nayaka, a servant of Krishna-Deva-Raya-maharaya,<br />

made a grant for (with praises) <strong>the</strong> god Chenna-Kesavanatha of Velapuri, <strong>the</strong><br />

god of <strong>the</strong> mahaurajadhiraja's royal family, as follows: —<br />

In order that his fa<strong>the</strong>r Jakkana-Nayaka and his mo<strong>the</strong>r Tipamma might<br />

atta<strong>in</strong> to <strong>the</strong> world of undy<strong>in</strong>g merit, and that virtue might accrue to<br />

Knshnappa-Nayaka, he constructed a pond for a raft aud a Vasanta-mantapa;<br />

and <strong>in</strong> order to provide for ten days raft festival <strong>in</strong> Phalguna, for <strong>the</strong><br />

oblation, and feed<strong>in</strong>g of Brahmans dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> festival, for <strong>the</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>gs of<br />

daily service at sunrise and noon, for a meal to 40 Brahmans <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> chhatra,
