The open<strong>in</strong>g portion, with <strong>the</strong> omission of a few verses, corresponds with<br />

that of No 58 above, down to " Vallala, Vishnu, Udayaditya". (Praises of<br />

Vishnu-Deva.) First of all tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to his arms <strong>the</strong> wealth of <strong>the</strong> Poysala<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, which was bis <strong>in</strong>heritance, he brought under his command all <strong>the</strong><br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts of <strong>the</strong> compass, and captur<strong>in</strong>g Talakadu, became <strong>the</strong> first to <strong>the</strong> Ganga<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, — <strong>the</strong> promoter of <strong>the</strong> Yadu-vamsa, <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu The goddess<br />

of Victory, without desert<strong>in</strong>g him, reposed with pride <strong>in</strong> his arms, and his<br />

fortune <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g, he burnt <strong>the</strong> chief city of <strong>the</strong> Gangas,— <strong>the</strong> mighty<br />

Vishnu namod Bhujabala-Ganga<br />

When, (with a long list of titles and epi<strong>the</strong>ts, correspond<strong>in</strong>g with those <strong>in</strong><br />

No. 58 above, with a few omissions) Tnbhuvana-Malla, <strong>the</strong> strong-armed Vha-<br />

Ganga Vishnuvarddhana-Poysala-Deva by <strong>the</strong> might of his arm was protect<strong>in</strong>g<br />

all <strong>the</strong> territory bounded east by <strong>the</strong> lower ghat of Naiigah, south by Kongu,<br />

Cheram and Anamale; west by <strong>the</strong> Bacakanur-ghat load of Konkana; north<br />

by Savimale—And, united with <strong>the</strong> senior queen, <strong>the</strong> crowned mahadevi (with<br />

numerous epi<strong>the</strong>ts, as <strong>in</strong> No. 58), santala-Devi, Vishnuvarddhana-Poysala-Deva<br />

was <strong>in</strong> his residence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> great city Vglapura, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace<br />

and wisdom' —<br />

(The rema<strong>in</strong>der of <strong>the</strong> grant corresponds with No. 58 above, except that <strong>the</strong><br />

villages granted are different. 0 )<br />

And mak<strong>in</strong>g prayers and sacrifices <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> god Vijaya-<br />

Narayana, he granted to 120 Bhattas <strong>the</strong> land of H<strong>in</strong>ya-Muguh, with Chikanahalli;<br />

and to 21 Bhattas, Benneyur, with Areyahalh and Keleyabeyahalli;<br />

and to 32 Srivaishnavas, Nittur <strong>in</strong> Tagare-nad.<br />

1) This grant and No 58 were made on <strong>the</strong> same day, which 1* <strong>the</strong>re called Vaddavara, and<br />

here Adivara.
