to <strong>the</strong> hdhali-vicharada-chavadi of Mahisura-nagara, may be given to you, <strong>the</strong><br />

revenue of which for <strong>the</strong> year Pramadi, accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> accounts of<br />

Narasaiyya, <strong>the</strong> sydnabhdga of <strong>the</strong> place, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g rent <strong>in</strong> money, rent <strong>in</strong><br />

gram, customs-dues and tolls, amounted to 26 Kanthiraya varaha 4-» liana,—<br />

and whereas you have paid to <strong>the</strong> treasury through Vha-Setti of KoHogala<br />

<strong>the</strong> sum of 264 Kanthiraya varaha 5 liana,— this village of Savantanahalli,<br />

with all rights (specified) is from this day forth made over to you, to be<br />

enjoyed <strong>in</strong> permanence, without h<strong>in</strong>drance, by your sons, grandsons and<br />

posterity.<br />

Praise of <strong>the</strong> J<strong>in</strong>a sasana. Also of <strong>the</strong> Arungalanvaya <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nandist<strong>in</strong>gha<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Dramila-sangha.<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gs who arose <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yadu-kula was Sala, who from kill<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> tiger at <strong>the</strong> muni's bidd<strong>in</strong>g of poy Sala, obta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> name of Poysala.<br />

In his l<strong>in</strong>e (omitt<strong>in</strong>g laudations) arose V<strong>in</strong>ayaditya, whose son was Ereyanga,<br />

whose sons were Ballala, Bitti-Deva and Udayaditya. Of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>the</strong> middle<br />

one, Vishnu, became <strong>the</strong> chief. Hav<strong>in</strong>g taken Maleya, did he desist? Talavana,<br />

Kanchipura, Koyatur, Male-nad, Tulu-nad, Nilagiri, Kolala, Kongu, Nangali,<br />

Uchchaiigi, Virata-Raja's city, Vallur, — all <strong>the</strong>se he captured with his strong<br />

arm, as if <strong>in</strong> sport. East, south, and west, three oceans be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> boundaries<br />

of <strong>the</strong> land he ruled, on <strong>the</strong> north he made <strong>the</strong> Peiddore his boundary. His<br />

own country he gave to Brahmans and <strong>the</strong> gods, aud himself ruled over<br />

foieign countries won by his sword. His son was Narasimha, whose wife was<br />

Echala-Devi. Their son was Ballala-Deva, whose k<strong>in</strong>gdom was as prosperous<br />

as that of Rama.<br />

In his k<strong>in</strong>gdom shone Buchi-Raja (with praises) as m<strong>in</strong>ister, skilled <strong>in</strong><br />

both Kannada and Samskrita, and compos<strong>in</strong>g poetry <strong>in</strong> both His wife was<br />

San tale, whose fa<strong>the</strong>r (and uncle) were Manyane and Bharata. To Santala-<br />

Devi and <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>ister Buchana, was born Ra ... Raja.<br />

When (with usual titles) Hoysala-BalUla-Deva was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital city<br />

Dorasamudra (on <strong>the</strong> date specified), distribut<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> great gifts at <strong>the</strong><br />

festival of his coronation (see No. 71 above), <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister for peace<br />

and war, Bu.chimayya, hav<strong>in</strong>g erected <strong>the</strong> Trikilta-J<strong>in</strong>alaya <strong>in</strong> Mankali <strong>in</strong> Sige.<br />

nad, that village was granted to provide for <strong>the</strong> service of <strong>the</strong> god, <strong>the</strong><br />

distribution of food and repairs of <strong>the</strong> temple, be<strong>in</strong>g made over with wash<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of his feet to Vasupujya-siddhanta-deva, disciple of Sripala-tiaividya-deva, of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Arungalanvaya of <strong>the</strong> Dramila-sangha. (Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.)<br />
