to <strong>the</strong> water-lily <strong>the</strong> Yadu-kula, an ocean of virtue, <strong>the</strong> Yadava-Narayana, an<br />

object of desire to <strong>the</strong> cleverest of <strong>the</strong> fair, <strong>in</strong> bravery <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g of beasts,<br />

raja of <strong>the</strong> hill-rajas, a thunderbolt <strong>in</strong> splitt<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> skull of Karapala,<br />

champion over <strong>the</strong> hill-chiefs, master over <strong>the</strong> herd of adult elephants <strong>the</strong><br />

race of k<strong>in</strong>gs, lord of Gandagiri, Indra <strong>in</strong> reduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pride of<br />

<strong>the</strong> fierce Pandya, Brahma <strong>in</strong> wisdom, Garuda to <strong>the</strong> serpent <strong>the</strong> army of<br />

Jagaddeva, Balarama <strong>in</strong> might, an axe <strong>in</strong> cutt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> tree Narasmgha-<br />

Brahma, thunder to <strong>the</strong> swan <strong>the</strong> pride of Irungola, Pururava <strong>in</strong> atta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> objects of human desire, a jewelled arch to <strong>the</strong> abode of <strong>the</strong> goddess of<br />

victory, destroyer of <strong>the</strong> pride of Adiyama, a great serpent to <strong>the</strong> chiefs, a<br />

Kandarppa <strong>in</strong> beauty, devoted to <strong>the</strong> remembrance of Vishnu, adorned with<br />

valour, <strong>the</strong> champion who capturod Talakadu, unshaken, brave, a sarahha to<br />

<strong>the</strong> lion Cheng<strong>in</strong>, <strong>the</strong> equal of Adiraja, hav<strong>in</strong>g received a boon from <strong>the</strong> goddess<br />

Vasantika, scented like musk, with <strong>the</strong>se and all o<strong>the</strong>r titles, — <strong>the</strong> mahamandalesvara,<br />

<strong>the</strong> capturer of Talakadu Kongu Nangah Gangavadi Nonambavadi<br />

Banavase and Hanungal, <strong>the</strong> strong-armed Vira-Ganga Kadamba<br />

Vishnuvarddhana's dear son, Narasimha-Hoysala-Deva, putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> evil<br />

and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good, was govern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Gangavadi N<strong>in</strong>ety-six Thousand<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Konambavadi Thirty-two Thousand, his victorious k<strong>in</strong>gdom<br />

extend<strong>in</strong>g on all sides to cont<strong>in</strong>ue as long as sun, moon and stars, and he<br />

was <strong>in</strong> his residence <strong>in</strong> Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace and<br />

wisdom: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus-feet, was <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister and general, senior<br />

master of <strong>the</strong> robes, Bokimayya, whose bravery was as follows. —When <strong>the</strong><br />

great victor Bokana marches forth, is Chola not terrified, does not Malava<br />

retire <strong>in</strong> fear, Kal<strong>in</strong>ga run to <strong>the</strong> refuge of his hill-fort, Gujjara escape to<br />

one side, or will <strong>the</strong>y meet him <strong>in</strong> war and survive — this Garuda of Bitti-<br />

Deva, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> middle of <strong>the</strong> earth? The Tulu country, <strong>the</strong> Changa k<strong>in</strong>g's<br />

territory, <strong>the</strong> famous Bayalnad, <strong>the</strong> Konga k<strong>in</strong>g's dom<strong>in</strong>ion, <strong>the</strong> groat Chola<br />

country, and <strong>the</strong> celebrated places <strong>in</strong> . . did he by <strong>the</strong><br />

strength of his own arm br<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to subjection to his k<strong>in</strong>g, and was like a<br />

band-mirror to <strong>the</strong> goddess of victory <strong>in</strong> all <strong>the</strong> earth — Bokana Annex<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> territory of hostile k<strong>in</strong>gs who would not submit, and protect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

territory of chiefs who were shak<strong>in</strong>g with fear, he brought <strong>the</strong> whole earth<br />

<strong>in</strong>to subjection to <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g vira-Narasimlia, — <strong>the</strong> master of <strong>the</strong> robes,<br />

Bokana, — as far as <strong>the</strong> western ocean.
