Dorasamudra, rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> peace and wisdom: — (on <strong>the</strong><br />

date specified) he made a grant of land (specified) for <strong>the</strong> basadi of Heragu<br />

(His praises, among which is <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g) When <strong>the</strong> bhert drum sounded<br />

(announc<strong>in</strong>g his march), Laja lost his Ilia (sportiveness), Gurjjara was consumed<br />

with jvara (fever) through foar, Gaul a was as if pierced with a sala (spear),<br />

Pallava was reduced to sampaUlavam (meagre wealth), Chola had his chtila<br />

(crown) reduced to powder<br />

(On <strong>the</strong> date specified) <strong>the</strong> chief of <strong>the</strong> customs (named) released <strong>the</strong><br />

customs-dues for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp of <strong>the</strong> god Chenna-Pansva of Heragu<br />

And <strong>the</strong> headman, <strong>the</strong> senabova (both named) and all <strong>the</strong> people gave <strong>the</strong> tax<br />

ou one bullock oil-mill and one oilman's house-tax.<br />

Praise of Jaitanatha, and <strong>the</strong> Boar.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Somanvaya (or Lunar race) was Yadu, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yadu family<br />

arose <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Sala (his praises). Once when ho was <strong>in</strong> Sasapuri, a<br />

muni called out <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Karnnata language with great fear poy Sala, on<br />

which he at once killed <strong>the</strong> tiger with <strong>the</strong> stick <strong>in</strong> his hand. From which he<br />

and his l<strong>in</strong>e obta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> name Poysala and had <strong>the</strong> tiger flag. In it, like<br />

a sun, arose V<strong>in</strong>ayarkka Then Ereyauga, who had three sons,—Ballala,<br />

Vishnu-Deva and Udayaditya. Of <strong>the</strong>m,—how many hostile k<strong>in</strong>gs d;d he<br />

not destroy, how many did he not take <strong>in</strong>to favour and restore under his<br />

support, what lands bestowed by him have been resumed, what gift did he not<br />

make, how many reservoirs and o<strong>the</strong>r charitable works did he not carry out,<br />

what can be said of <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu? His son was Narasimha, whoso wife<br />

was Echala-Devi. They had a son Ballala (his praises).<br />

While (with usual titles) Poysala vira-Ballala-Deva, be<strong>in</strong>g on a tour of<br />

victory, was <strong>in</strong> his camp at Nidugal-durga <strong>in</strong>" Sire-nad, govern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>in</strong> peace: —<br />

A dweller at his lotus-feet was Jai-Bhattayya-Nayaka, whose descent was<br />

as follows:—A raja by right of <strong>the</strong> Kasmira country; his house be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
