<strong>the</strong> south w<strong>in</strong>d delayed? why has it not set <strong>in</strong> yet? Because <strong>the</strong> breeze from<br />

Malaya is impeded by blow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> nostrils of <strong>the</strong> myriad skulls of his<br />

enemies sla<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu's expeditions along <strong>the</strong> banks of <strong>the</strong> Kaveri.<br />

(Also) Dhara, which was <strong>the</strong> stronghold of <strong>the</strong> Malava k<strong>in</strong>gs, and which had<br />

been brought to great fame by k<strong>in</strong>g Bhdja, he swallowed, as if <strong>the</strong> prelim<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

sip (aposana) before devour<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> whole earth <strong>in</strong> his expedition to <strong>the</strong> north,—<br />

who can describe such a hero? (Also) These are not mere eulogies, he hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

ga<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> fame of Kripa and Arjuna, why should <strong>the</strong>re be a separate Bharata<br />

story? is not <strong>the</strong> history of k<strong>in</strong>g Vishnu enough?—To Vishnu and to Lakshmi-<br />

Devi was born Narasimha. (His praises.)<br />

While (with usual titles) Tribhuvana-malla, <strong>the</strong> capturor of Talakddu,<br />

Gangavadi, Nonambavadi, Banavase, Hanungal, Ilalasige, and Beluvala; <strong>the</strong> strong-armed Vira<br />

powerful arms <strong>the</strong> whole earth between Hima and Setu, putt<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>the</strong> evil<br />

and uphold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> good, was rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom m <strong>the</strong> enjoyment of peace<br />

and wisdom:—The dweller at his lotus-feet,—was <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister Heggade-<br />

Kahmeyya, whose high descent was as follows:—<br />

Read<strong>in</strong>g and expla<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Veda, study<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> mean<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> Veda,<br />

devoted to follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> precepts of <strong>the</strong> Veda, delighter <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Veda, was a<br />

great Brahmana named Gov<strong>in</strong>da. His eldest son, by his justice, life, piety and<br />

wealth, famed as chief <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world, was Naga-ltudra. His next younger<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>r was Maddimayya, like maddu (medic<strong>in</strong>e) to those <strong>in</strong> distress; whose<br />

wife was Makavve. Their son, whose employer was Buchana, was Kahmayya<br />

(his praises),<br />

(With numerous titles) <strong>the</strong> great m<strong>in</strong>ister, Heggade-Kalimayya, hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

set up <strong>the</strong> god Kalegvara <strong>in</strong> Jakkeyanahalli, belong<strong>in</strong>g to Koravaiigala attached<br />

to <strong>the</strong> great agrahara of Santigrama,—<strong>in</strong> order to provide for <strong>the</strong> ceremonies,<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>gs and worship of <strong>the</strong> god, and for repairs of <strong>the</strong> temple and <strong>the</strong> food<br />

of <strong>the</strong> ascetics, made a grant of certa<strong>in</strong> lands (specified).<br />

The priest of <strong>the</strong> temple was Sivasakti-Pandita, to whomKalimayya-Heggade<br />

made over <strong>the</strong> temple. (Usual f<strong>in</strong>al verses.)<br />

date specified) one hand-oil-mill for <strong>the</strong> perpetual lamp of <strong>the</strong> god Kalesvara
