of <strong>the</strong> village of Kittane, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hasana country of <strong>the</strong> 11vaisana (I. e. Hoysana)<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom, toge<strong>the</strong>r with its five hamlets, uam<strong>in</strong>g it Tirumalapuram aftei his<br />

queen. And divid<strong>in</strong>g it <strong>in</strong>to 28 shares, he transferred it with all rights<br />

(specified). (Here follow <strong>the</strong> names and particulars of <strong>the</strong> shareholders)<br />

This deed of a grant of land by <strong>the</strong> renowned k<strong>in</strong>g Krishna-Raya, was<br />

composed with soft expressions by Sabhapati at <strong>the</strong> command of Krishna-Devamaharaya.<br />

And this copper sasana was engraved by <strong>the</strong> carpenter Mallanacharya,<br />

son of Viranacharya, who received one share as <strong>the</strong> engraver. (Usual f<strong>in</strong>al<br />

verses.)<br />

Krishna-Raya; <strong>the</strong>n cont<strong>in</strong>ues) and Ranga-kshit<strong>in</strong>dra and Achyuta-Deva-Raya<br />

were born to Narasa by Obambika. (After descubiog <strong>the</strong> reigns of Narasimha<br />

The world of gods hav<strong>in</strong>g been taken as his portion by Krishna-Raya, after<br />

him his younger bro<strong>the</strong>r (anujantna), of meritorious deeds, Achyutendra, took <strong>the</strong><br />

world of <strong>the</strong> earth for his portion, subdu<strong>in</strong>g his enemies, surpass<strong>in</strong>g India, and<br />

bestow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir desires on <strong>the</strong> learned. The ocean, which of old Agastya had<br />

swallowed and which was dried up by <strong>the</strong> fire-arrow of Raghava and <strong>the</strong> flames of<br />

<strong>the</strong> submar<strong>in</strong>e fire, was filled aga<strong>in</strong> with <strong>the</strong> streams pouted forth with his rich<br />

gifts. A k<strong>in</strong>g famed for virtue and justice, seated on <strong>the</strong> brilliant jowel-throne<br />

of Vijayanagara, putt<strong>in</strong>g to shame by his regal policy Nriga, Nala, Nahusha<br />

and o<strong>the</strong>rs, Achyutendra was <strong>the</strong> abode of unequalled valour and generosity.<br />

Establish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> body of his fame <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> earth, Achyutendra ga<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong><br />

feet of Vishnu; when his son, famous for valour, Venkata-Deva-Raya, seated<br />

himself on his auspicious throne. Venkata-Raya was thus rul<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom,<br />

his form like Manmatha, an abode of learn<strong>in</strong>g, when, to <strong>the</strong> misfortune of his<br />

subjects, he before long ascended to Indra's abode.<br />

The pearl from <strong>the</strong> womb of Timmamba, <strong>the</strong> son of Ranga-kshit<strong>in</strong>dra, was<br />

<strong>the</strong>n ano<strong>in</strong>ted to <strong>the</strong> throne by Rama-Raja his sister's hushand,—an ornament<br />

of Kshatiiyas, protector of <strong>the</strong> fortunes of <strong>the</strong> Karnata k<strong>in</strong>gdom, noted for<br />

valour, generosity and mercy,—and <strong>the</strong> chief m<strong>in</strong>isters. And Sadasiva-maharaya,<br />

(thus) seated on <strong>the</strong> throne of a great k<strong>in</strong>gdom, <strong>the</strong> ornament of Vidyanagara,<br />

like <strong>the</strong> tree of plenty <strong>in</strong> Suragiri, hav<strong>in</strong>g destroyed all his enemies, brought<br />

<strong>in</strong>to subjection <strong>the</strong> whole land from setu to Himadri, and ruled for a long time.<br />

At his ano<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tears of joy shed by his subjects ano<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>the</strong> Earth as<br />

his queen.—(Fur<strong>the</strong>r praises, among which it says that) <strong>the</strong> Kambhdja, Bhoja,<br />

Kal<strong>in</strong>ga, Karahata and o<strong>the</strong>r k<strong>in</strong>gs acted as servants <strong>in</strong> his female apartments.
