HASSAN TALUQ<br />

Fortune May it be prosperous.<br />

Obeisance to Sambhu, beauteous with <strong>the</strong> chamara-like crescent moon kiss<strong>in</strong>g<br />

his lofty head; <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al foundation-pillar of <strong>the</strong> city of <strong>the</strong> three worlds<br />

While <strong>the</strong> maharajadhiraja raja-paramesvara Achyuta-Raya-maharaya was<br />

rul<strong>in</strong>g a peaceful k<strong>in</strong>gdom: [and] <strong>the</strong> son of Narasimha, <strong>the</strong> younger bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

of Krishna-Raya, k<strong>in</strong>g Achyuta, was on <strong>the</strong> throne <strong>in</strong> Vidyanngara<br />

In favour with that celebrated lord of <strong>the</strong> four oceans, was <strong>the</strong> full moon<br />

to <strong>the</strong> sea of mercy, a Purandaia <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> worship of Siva, <strong>the</strong> son of<br />

Tirumalesvara,—Chennapanna-bhupala. Devoted to <strong>the</strong> worship of Mahadeva,<br />

of brilliant splendour, was <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Chennapanna, bear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> bur<strong>the</strong>n of his<br />

master's affairs.<br />

In favour with that celebrated Chennapanna, was his sister's son; whose<br />

hand poured forth gifts of cows, land, gold and virg<strong>in</strong>s, who was ano<strong>in</strong>ted<br />

with <strong>the</strong> nectar of <strong>the</strong> words of poets, born from <strong>the</strong> meritorious womb of<br />

Tippa-bhupala.—Yellappa-bhupaia (Verse <strong>in</strong> Telugu:) Turahara's trident may<br />

snap, <strong>the</strong> arrows <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> hand of Raghu-Rama may altoge<strong>the</strong>r break, <strong>the</strong><br />

thunderbolt weapon of <strong>the</strong> lord of gods may burst,—<strong>the</strong> word of Yell a, (son) of<br />

<strong>the</strong> wise Tippa, cannot be turned aside. That <strong>the</strong>re were no enemies of<br />

Yellaya, and no/poverty among good poets throughout <strong>the</strong> countries luled by<br />

<strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>g Tippa-Yella, was <strong>the</strong> common talk.<br />

We, Yellappa-Nayaka, <strong>in</strong> order that merit ma) accrue to our Chennapanna,<br />

have presented <strong>the</strong> village of Udduru, situated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> llasana country, which<br />

Achyuta-Raya conferred on Chennapanna for his o<strong>the</strong>e of Amara-Nayaka, for<br />

<strong>the</strong> purpose of provid<strong>in</strong>g a satra (<strong>in</strong>n) <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> presence of <strong>the</strong> lotus-feet of <strong>the</strong><br />

Virupaksha-l<strong>in</strong>ga of Hasana. (Omitt<strong>in</strong>g repetitions:) All <strong>the</strong> cultivated lands<br />

of Udduru, toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> eight rights of full possession, we make over,<br />

with presentation of a co<strong>in</strong> and pour<strong>in</strong>g of water, to <strong>the</strong> hand of Devara-Bhatta,<br />

agent of <strong>the</strong> temple, <strong>in</strong> order that you and twelve Brahmans may be daily fed<br />

at-<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>n as long as sun and moon endure. These gifts have we made that<br />

merit may accrue to Chennapanna, and universal dom<strong>in</strong>ion to Achyuta-Raya<br />

Any surplus funds to be devoted to <strong>the</strong> festival of <strong>the</strong> god.
