VI.Kardiológiai Intézet, Klinikai Fiziológiai TanszékDEVELOPMENT OF A CALCIUM DEPENDENT SPONTANEOUSMYOGENIC TONE IN ISOLATED BASILAR ARTERIESTissue blood distribution is controlled by various factors, including theregulation of spontaneous myogenic tone, in vivo. The conventional approach todevelop anti-hypertensive agents is testing the effects of drug candidates onisometric contraction of isolated arteries.Goal: To investigate the characteristics of spontaneous myogenic tone incircular basilar artery rings. Methods: Isolated basilar artery segments of the rat were mounted on anisometric force measurement system. Intracellular Ca2+ concentrations andcontractile force was simultaneously recorded. Results: Mounted basilar artery segments developed an active, Ca2+ dependentmyogenic tone, according to their reduced diameter in the presence Ca2+(decrease in vascular diameter at 90 Hgmm intraluminar pressure from 441±11µm in the absence of Ca2+ to 382±21 µm in the presence of Ca2+, p
