The key attributes <strong>for</strong> the export of groundnuts are piece count referr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to the number of seeds per ounce, aflatox<strong>in</strong>s and physical properties such as<br />

brokens and admixtures. The seed size expressed as piece counts is crucial to<br />

determ<strong>in</strong>e commodity value. Until now, there have been no limits <strong>for</strong> the<br />

pesticide residues <strong>in</strong> the seed and cake. The <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> healthy<br />

eat<strong>in</strong>g has <strong>in</strong>itiated the concept of organic farm<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g countries.<br />

<strong>Groundnut</strong>s grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers would fetch a<br />

premium.<br />

Aflatox<strong>in</strong> limits fixed by importer countries<br />

Many groundnut-import<strong>in</strong>g countries have placed limits on the levels of<br />

aflatox<strong>in</strong>s permissible <strong>in</strong> groundnuts and groundnut products (Table 24).<br />

Countries depend<strong>in</strong>g on export of aflatox<strong>in</strong>-susceptible commodities eg,<br />
