BOL D’OR MIRABAUD 2008
FRANCK CAMMAS REIGNS
OVER LAKE GENEVA
Vincent Gillioz
A winner from the Mediterranean on a Décision 35 and a Ventilo M2 in second place were the
main ingredients for the Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2008 presented by Girard-Perregaux. A short recap.
On the morning of June 14 th 2008, when 519 competitors were lining up on the start line for
the 70 th Bol d’Or Mirabaud, the wind was best described as discreet. Most boats were trying
desperately to keep manoeuvring while awaiting the liberating shot from the starting pistol. On
the eve of the race, the regatta’s weather forecaster, Pierre Eckert, spoke of a light northerly wind
which was expected to rise before the stroke of nine; however, it made itself scarce.
It was logical for the multihulls, positioned upstream from the rest of the fleet, to open the ball
and feel the first breaths of wind before the others. The northerly wind did indeed try to get
the better of the static air mass weighing heavily over the Geneva end of the lake (petit lac).
The tension was palpable and even if the regatta looked as though it would be long, it was imperative
to acquire a good position from the start, if only from a psychological point of view. It was Zen Too,
