St-Bernard region offers a wide range of sports and cultural activities.
In summer, there is something that will appeal to every hiker - educational
paths, mountain huts, alpine lakes, nature reserves, walks with St-Bernard
dogs or treks over several days - all will brighten up your holidays, right up to
October when our forests - which are amongst Switzerland’s largest - attire in
their most beautiful colours.
Don’t hesitate to enhance your stay with a visit to the Grand-St-Bernard
Hospice Museum – one of the most visited in Valais, as well as to the Flore-Alpe
botanical garden in Champex-Lac, one of the richest and most prestigious in
the Alps, or to the old Champex-Lac Artillery Fort, for a journey in time through
our Swiss history, or with the treetop walk at La Fouly for a moment of fun in
the trees or with a dip in one of our swimming pools to freshen up.
In winter, our charming resorts offer ski runs and freeride itinaries for all levels
with spectacular panoramic views, cross country ski runs in breathtaking
natural surroundings and snowshoe trails in the heart of our white forests.

Here are a few suggestions to look after and respect nature.
1. Respect the restrictions
Pay attention to the notice boards in the area.
2. Use the existing paths and itineraries
This helps protect the delicate biotopes of the fauna and flora. Don't trespass on
private property and close gates behind you.
3. Preserve the flora and nesting areas
Follow the existing detours and don't go near the top of the rocks as these are fragile.
Avoid rocks covered with dense vegetation, don't pick any plants in the crevices and
stay well away from nesting areas in the cliffs.
4. Keep climbing areas clean
Take your rubbish away with you.
5. Travel ecologically
Take advantage of the numerous offers on public transport: www.cff.ch.
6. Respect any restrictions on access or parking
It is generally forbidden to drive along forest tracks. Avoid parking in unauthorized
areas: this annoys farmers and land owners and can damage vegetation.
7. Eat local produce and save water and energy
Spending the night in the area and buying local produce helps support mountain
regions and makes your climb eco-friendlier. Save water and energy in your
accommodation: both are in limited supply!
8. Keep dogs on a leash, especially in the forest
Dogs love chasing wild animals, which puts them under a lot of stress.

Lodged between Switzerland and Italy, the Tour des Combins offers nine days
of hiking around the Combins Range (4’314 m). This is an excursion in the
heart of the Alps, crossing five valleys. The itinerary offers surroundings with

Grand Entemont beekeeping skills centre
It's with great pleasure that a new jewel in the heart of the Grand Entremont
region has seen the light of day in Sembrancher: the Centre de Compétences
Apicoles. Located along the main road, this center promises to be much
more than just an institution dedicated to beekeeping. Indeed, it represents
a catalyst for development for the entire region. By bringing its expertise
to the beekeeping sector, the center is committed to stimulating the local
economy, boosting tourism and agro-tourism, and enriching the daily lives of
local residents.

the industrial zone at route de la Proz 28. Everything you need to beautify your

Set off on a journey of discovery of a region filled with character by hiking some of the
550 km of signposted paths in the heart of the Pays du St-Bernard! From themed paths
for all levels of expertise to hikes taking place over several days, everyone will enjoy
both the natural and cultural wealth of these places.

Following a walk up to La Breya, take the path which goes along the hillside (not very
open on the first stretch). After this, follow the moraine of the Orny Glacier up to the hut
with the same name. To reach the Cabane de Trient, the path goes along the glacier
and then winds up the last part. Enjoy a magnificent view of Trient and the Mont Blanc
range. Possibility to go up by chairlift to the top of the Breya and save 2 hours.
FENETRE D'ARPETTE BY THE BISSE AND THE VALLON

From the bottom of the Breya chairlift, head for the Arpette Restaurant at the foot of
the valley with the same name. Cross the big meadow up to the larch forest. Then
follow the path on the right which crosses the stream and heads for the Fenêtre
d’Arpette. The last stretch of this walk can be a bit difficult for the less experienced
amongst us. The way back is via the same route.

Enjoy this pleasant family walk which begins at the entrance of Champex-Lac village.
Enhanced with educational panels on the theme of the forest and stagecoaches, the
path combines sport and discovery. Just the view over the valley and Orsières village
is worth the trip.

Your walk starts at the place known as Le Signal and initially follows the direction of
the Sentier du Devin. The path then winds uphill to the Belvédère Chalet. Follow the
path which leads to the Catogne for 1 kilometre and then take the path that descends
fairly steeply on the left and leads to Champex-Lac.
To avoid this desend, return back on the same way.

playground, take the right path towards the «Sentier des Trappeurs». The trail takes

The start of this demanding walk is near the camp site. The path goes along the Reuse
de l’Amône up to the place known as Pierre Javelle. The path is equipped with chains
in several places. You will finally reach the A Neuve hut where you will be confronted
by a magnificent panorama.

From the Saleinaz plateau, take the path that leads to the water intake. When you get
there, turn left and follow the path towards the Saleinaz mountain hut. Once you get
past the section with chains and ladders, the path follows the right side of the glacier
until you reach the hut.

From the top of the Arpalle chairlift, follow the path to your left. It will lead you to the
Basset pass, which links Val Ferret to the Combe de l’A. At the top of the pass, you
can either come back the way you came or continue towards the Combe de l’A or the
Névé de la Rousse pass.

From La Fouly, link up with the little hamlet of Granges, and then turn right towards the
Gîte de la Léchère. Continue going uphill towards the Petit Col de Ferret. Once you are
over the border, go along the ridge on the Italian side and then go behind the Tête de
Ferret to link up with the Grand Col Ferret. The decent follows the same path as the
Tour du Mont Blanc. Take the time to enjoy a break at La Peule mountain pasture prior
to reaching your point of departure via a path along the hillside.

From the top of La Fouly chairlift, take the path on the leftt on the «Sentier des
Bouquetins» which takes you past the Ars, Plan-La-Chaux and Mont-Percé high
mountain pastures to the end of the Val Ferret. Climb in the direction of La Peule
mountain pasture where you will have an opportunity to taste local produce or to
become acquainted with cheese-making! Finally, walk along La Dotze slopes before
linking up with the Gîte de La Léchère and getting back to La Fouly.
FERRET - LACS DE FENÊTRE - GRAND-ST-BERNARD

From Ferret, follow the farm road to Plan-La-Chaux high mountain pasture and turn
left towards the Lacs de Fenêtre. The path continues up to the Fenêtre de Ferret on
the Swiss-Italian border, and then goes down towards the pass road. Go uphill to the
Grand-St-Bernard Hospice which is the end of the walk. You have the option of taking
the post bus back. (in the PASS Saint-Bernard included).

From the Hospice, walk 100m down the road on the Swiss side and then go left and
follow the path uphill towards the Col des Chevaux and the Col du Batillon, before
descending to the Lacs de Fenêtre. The return is via the Fenêtre de Ferret. Go down
the italian road towards the pass and finally links up with the Swiss border.

You have the option of starting this fun, informative walk (which presents the life of the
ibex) at the top of La Fouly chairlift. Go past La Fouly and Mont-Percé cow huts before

Ferret and the left bank of the Dranse.

The Sentier des Plantes Médicinales invites walkers to get to know local flora and
its benefits and winds along a pleasant path around the A Neuve Valley. All along the
same path, smaller guests will be able to follow Charlotte the Marmot who will invite
them to experiment, test and observe the natural and historical wealth of the region
throughout the walk.

The various educational boards will introduce you to chalet architecture, how bread
ovens and mills from yesteryear function. From the Reuse de la Saleinaz bridge, take
the path into the forest up to the Chalet de la Deuve. Go back down via the places
known as l’Etarpay, Plan Raveire and Le Darbellay. When you reach Issert, cross the
bridge and link up with the villages of Arlaches, Praz-de-Fort and finally Saleinaz.

From the start of the Vichères-Bavon chairlift parking, go back on the earth road
leading to the «Torrent de l’A» . Following this, take the path and the road to the
Tsissette pasture. Go up towards the Col du Névé de la Rousse via the Vouasse
pasture. In autumn, listen out for bellowing deer. The descent follows the same path.

Hikes in Val d'Entremont 27
This round trip walk wends its way through fantastic panoramas. At Bourg-St-Pierre,
take the road and then the path towards the Valsorey and Vélan huts. At the Chalet
d’Amont, the paths split. Take the right one towards the Vélan hut and the left to
the Valsorey hut. The following day, follow the panoramic path. Pass through the
Botseresses, Pointe de Penne, Challand d’en Haut back to Bourg-St-Pierre.

From the start of the Toules Dam, take the track which ascends towards the top of the
dam wall. Follow this above the Lettaz cow hut. The path then rises to the peaks above
the Fournoutze cow hut up to the Gouille du Dragon. From here, a stretch on the ridge
leads to the top of the Planards for a magnificent view of the Combe de l’A .

Take the path to the right from the Bourg-St-Pierre car park (just after the tunnel), on
the right-hand side of the old restaurant. You’ll cross several fields and end up at the
Plan du Jeu mountain hut, which was built in the early 90s, replacing an old sheep
barn.

Bisses 30
CHAMPEX-LAC BISSE, SENTIER DU PETIT RUISSEAU
Nice trail accessible to all starting right after the chairlift. Enjoy the beautiful views
and do not forget to taste the famous blueberry pie at the restaurant «Le Relais
Arpette.» Count 1.30 hour roundtrip.
OLD BISSE, REPPAZ-ORSIERES
The old Bisse rises in the river Pont Sec below the village of Commeire. With
educational signs on the flora, fauna and history of the Bisse, it brings the hiker above
the village of Reppaz.
BISSE OF "LA TOUR", VICHERES
The Bisse de la Tour, captured the water from the Torrent de l’A, at the foot of the Tour
de Bavon at 1’805 m for the bring it above Vichères after 3.3 km. Nowadays, it is no
more in operation.

Trail running destination 31
The Verbier/Val de Bagnes and the Pays du Saint-Bernard regions offer about 20
different itineraries to promote the trail running, this increasingly popular sport. The
trails were selected by experienced trail runners with an in-depth knowledge of the
sport and the region: Jules-Henri Gabioud, winner of the Tor des Géants in 2011 and
runner-up in the PTL in 2019 and Emily Vaudan, 3rd place in the X-Alpine VSB trail.
The different routes, which cover a total distance of 415km, with an ascending
elevation of over 33,000m, allow you to discover the cultural and natural attractions
of the region such as the Louvie lake, the Combe de l’A, the Catogne, the Corbassière
glacier and the Mauvoisin dam. The degree of difficulty varies from those with
less than 500m difference in elevation, ideal for beginners, to those covering a
distance of over 20km, with up to 1,000m difference in elevation, which are perfect
for experienced runners. The trails are accessible from April to October, depending
on the altitude and degree of exposure. Detailed descriptions of each itinerary can
be found on the Verbier/Val de Bagnes and Pays du Saint-Bernard tourist office
websites. A brochure with a map is also available to assist in the planning of an outing
in this extensive area.

La Linnaea alpine botanical garden at Bourg-Saint-Pierre
Founded on July 20, 1889, La Linnaea is the oldest alpine garden in
the western Alps. Since 1915, it has been an alpine biology station
belonging to the commune of Bourg-Saint-Pierre. More than 300
plant species are currently on display. Admission to the garden is
free. It celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2019!

Durnand gorges 46
Classified among the ten more beautiful Gorges in Europe, the Gorges
of Durnand offer a breath taking scenic sight. Footbridges and
overhanging wooden staircases looking over 14 torrent cascades
invite the walkers to live an unforgettable experience.
The Gorges are accessible to the public since 1877 by a bucolic path
which is transformed to a succession of over head climbing wood
footbridges with over look the torrent which bubbles under the feet
of the visitor. In front of the walker, the fairy-like cascades spout
to the sky. Every turn of the incredible wooden balcony leads to a
more extraordinary vision than the breath taking view before. It is an
example of the phenomena of erosion.
The way path is approximately 200 m of bumps and includes 330 steps. It takes
approximately 60 minutes to walk with the possibility to return by a pedestrian path in
the forest. Good walking shoes are advised to visit this magic fairy sight.

Archery 50
Founded at the end of 2009, the Société de tir à l'arc des trois Dranses (STA3D) is
a dynamic archery club which is delighted to be able to present its activities and
welcome you to its shooting range. It has a shooting range located in Liddes (Dranse),
between the waste disposal centre and the football field, where archery can be
practiced on two targets at 20, 30 and 50 metres.
The society organises introductory shootings which allow to understand the
fundamental principles of archery, to learn how to shoot with a bow instinctively
(without accessories) and to know the shooting equipment.

Great- St.Bernard Hospice 54
A passage way frequented for millennia, between Switzerland and Italy, the pass is
one of the not-to-be-missed locations in the Pays du St-Bernard region. A treasure
in the heart of the mountain, the Grand-St-Bernard Hospice has brought peace and
comfort to travellers for centuries.
Inside the hospice, the church’s splendour comes as a big surprise. Visit the nearby
Treasure Chamber, where a number of beautiful sacred objects belonging to the
Grand-Saint-Bernard congregation are exhibited.

objects, stuffed animal, insect and mineral collections.

Anybody who is not domiciled in the municipality has to pay a tourist tax. This can be
paid either to the accommodation organisation itself or at one of our tourist office. The
tourist tax goes towards funding the tourist offices, entertainment in the resorts and
the development of information flyers.
Tourist tax for hotels, chalets and apartments
Adult per night: CHF 3.60 in Orsières and Liddes, CHF 1.80 in Bourg-Saint-Pierre
Annual once-off fee: CHF 180.- per UPM in Orsières, CHF 108.- per UPM in Liddes, CHF
54.- per adult in Bourg-Saint-Pierre
Children per night (6-16 years old): CHF 1.80 in Orsières and Liddes, CHF 0.90 in Bourg-

As prescribed by the law, an accommodation tax must also be paid by your landlord
in the Liddes and Bourg-Saint-Pierre municipalities. In the Orsières municipality
(including Champex-Lac and La Fouly), the accommodation tax has been replaced
with a tourist promotion tax.
