STORIA<br />
In una zona geologica circoscritta, caratterizzata dal felice connubio di pregiati minerali<br />
chiamati localmente “terra turchina”, argilla di indubbie qualità dal colore blu, prospera il<br />
paese di Impruneta. La lavorazione della terracotta a Impruneta è antichissima, e ha<br />
origine con la civiltà degli Etruschi. Nel Rinascimento l’attività delle fornaci fiorì quando i<br />
Medici e altre famiglie nobili usavano adornare i parchi delle loro ville di vasi e statue di<br />
terracotta di Impruneta. Anche l’edificio dell’attuale fornace <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> risale al ‘500 e già<br />
nel 1621 antichi documenti parlano di un Lorenzo <strong>Poggi</strong> fornaciaio. Nel 1919 Tommaso<br />
Tobia acquista la fornace e col figlio <strong>Ugo</strong> <strong>Poggi</strong> continua la tipica produzione artigianale:<br />
una vocazione familiare che si tramanda e vede oggi a capo dell’azienda Licia e Liliana<br />
con i figli Antonella e Lorenzo, mentre la quinta generazione cresce...<br />
HISTORY<br />
In a geological region characterized by the abundance of valuable minerals, locally<br />
called “Land of the Deep Blue,” prospers the village of Impruneta, home to blue clay of<br />
unparalleled quality. The manufacturing of terracotta in Impruneta is an ancient tradition,<br />
dating back long before the Renaissance to Etruscan civilization.<br />
The activity of the kilns flourished in the 1500s, when the Medici and other noble families<br />
used Impruneta terracotta vases and statues to decorate the gardens of their villas.<br />
The building which houses the current <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> kilns also dates back to the 1500s, and<br />
documentation from 1621 mentions a Lorenzo <strong>Poggi</strong>, ceramic artisan. In 1919 Tommaso<br />
Tobia acquired the factory and with his son <strong>Ugo</strong> <strong>Poggi</strong> continued the traditional artistic<br />
production. It is a family vocation which is passed down from one generation to the next.<br />
Today, Licia and Liliana lead the company with their children Antonella and Lorenzo,<br />
while the fifth generation grows…<br />
DIE GESCHICHTE<br />
In einer geologisch umgrenzten Gegend, charakterisiert durch die glückliche Vereinigung<br />
hochwertiger Mineralien, blauer Lehm aus unbestrittener Qualität, lokal auch„terra turchina“<br />
genannt, lässt den Ort Impruneta aufblühen.<br />
Die Verarbeitung von Terrakotta in Impruneta ist eine antike Tradition und hat ihren Ursprung<br />
in der Zivilisation der Etrusker.<br />
Die Grundmauern der heutigen Tonbrennerei <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> gehen auf das Jahr 1500 zurück<br />
und in historischen Dokumenten sprach man schon 1621 von einem Tonbrenner namens<br />
Lorenzo <strong>Poggi</strong>.<br />
1919 kaufte Tobia die Brennerei und mit seinem Sohn <strong>Ugo</strong> <strong>Poggi</strong> führten sie die typisch<br />
handwerkliche Produktion weiter, eine Berufung der Familie welche sich überliefert und<br />
heute Licia und Liliana mit ihren Kindern Antonella und Lorenzo an der Führung des<br />
Unternehmens sieht, während die fünfte Generation heranwächst...<br />
L’HISTOIRE<br />
Le village d’Impruneta est au cœur d’une zone circonscrite caractérisée par une<br />
heureuse combinaison de minéraux de qualité, appelé localement "terra turchina", soit<br />
une argile d’une valeur incontestable de couleur bleue.<br />
Le travail de la terre cuite à Impruneta est très ancien et remonte à la civilisation étrusque.<br />
Mais, c’est au cours de la Renaissance que l’activité des fabriques de poterie fleurit, quand<br />
les Medici et les autres familles nobles ornaient les parcs de leurs villas de vases et de<br />
statues de terre cuite d’Impruneta.<br />
Aussi, le bâtiment de l’actuelle fabrique <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> date des années 1500 et déjà en 1621<br />
d’anciens documents font allusion à un certain Lorenzo <strong>Poggi</strong>, briquetier.<br />
En 1919, Tommaso Tobia acquit la fabrique et avec son fils <strong>Ugo</strong> <strong>Poggi</strong> continua la production<br />
artisanale traditionnelle, une vocation familiale qui se transmet et voit aujourd’hui à la<br />
direction de l’entreprise Licia et Liliana et les enfants Antonella et Lorenzo, tandis que se<br />
profile déjà la cinquième génération...

LAVORAZIONE<br />
Le caratteristiche dell’argilla impongono tecniche e metodi specifici per ogni fase della<br />
lavorazione: dalla selezione della materia prima nella cava di proprietà alla macinazione<br />
e all’impastatura con l’acqua. La lavorazione prosegue con il “calco”, il “guscio” e la<br />
nobile e difficile “posteggiatura”, a cui segue il delicato momento dell’essiccazione.<br />
Si finisce con la complessa fase della cottura, effettuata a temperature di oltre 1000°<br />
centigradi, che corona il lungo procedimento a cui viene sottoposto ogni prodotto che<br />
esce dalla fornace <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong>.<br />
La materia, sia cruda che cotta, è così duttile e generosa che anche in caso di spiacevoli<br />
rotture può essere nuovamente mescolata a terra vergine e macinata per dar vita a una<br />
nuova “opera d’arte”. Lento e incessante è il lavoro dell’uomo per dare giusta forma a<br />
ogni vaso, dove l’uno, seppure uguale all’altro di modello, si fa testimone della mano che<br />
lo ha plasmato, per divenire, di fatto, un oggetto unico.<br />
MANUFACTURING<br />
The characteristics of the clay require very specific methods and techniques for every<br />
phase of production, from the selection of primer from the property’s quarry to its grinding<br />
and mixture with water. The work continues with molding, casting and the noble, difficult<br />
“posturing”. It finishes with the complex firing phase at temperatures reaching 1000<br />
degrees Celsius, which crowns the epic procedure that each product which exits the<br />
<strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> kiln undergoes.<br />
The material, whether raw or fired, is so durable and versatile that even in the case of an<br />
unfortunate break, a broken piece can be mixed with fresh clay and ground to give life to<br />
a new work of art.<br />
Man’s work is slow and painstaking to bring each vase to proper form. While each would<br />
seem identical to the other models, the hand which has molded it gives testimony to its<br />
individuality.<br />
DIE VERARBEITUNG<br />
Die Eigenschaften des Lehms verlangen spezifische Techniken und Methoden für jede<br />
Phase der Verarbeitung: von der Auswahl des Rohstoffs aus der eigenen Lehmgrube bis hin<br />
zur Mahlung und das Verkneten mit Wasser. Die Verarbeitung geht dann weiter mit dem<br />
Formen durch Gipsabdruck und dem „Guscio“ und der edlen und schwieringen Phase der<br />
„posteggiatura“ gefolgt von dem delikaten Moment des Trocknens. Die Verarbeitung<br />
endet mit der komplizierten Phase des Brennens bei Temperaturen über 1000 Grad Celsius,<br />
welches die Krönung der langen Prozedur ist unter welche sich jedes Produkt unterziehen<br />
muss, das die Brennerei <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> verlässt.<br />
Das Material, als Rohstoff oder gebrannt ist so duktil und geschmeidig, das es auch im Falle<br />
eines bedauerlichen Bruches erneut mit Rohmaterial vermischt und zu einem neuen<br />
Kunstwerk verarbeitet werden kann.<br />
Langsam und unermüdlich ist die Arbeit des Menschen, um jeder Vase die richtige Form zu<br />
geben und obwohl es die selben Modelle sind wird durch die individuelle Handarbeit jedes<br />
Produkt zum Einzelstück.<br />
LA FABRICATION<br />
Les caractéristiques de l’argile imposent des techniques et des méthodes spécifiques pour<br />
chaque phase de la fabrication: de la sélection de la matière dans la carrière familiale, au<br />
broyage et au malaxage avec l’eau. Le travail se poursuit avec le moulage, le " guscio "<br />
et la noble et difficile "posteggiatura" avant le moment délicat du séchage.<br />
Il se termine avec la phase complexe de la cuisson, effectuée à une température de plus<br />
de 1000 °C, couronnant ainsi le long procédé auquel est soumis chaque produit de la<br />
fabrique <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong>. La matière, qu’elle soit cuite ou crue, est si souple et généreuse que<br />
même en cas de fissure déplaisante, elle peut de nouveau être mélangée à la terre<br />
vierge et être façonnée pour donner vie à une nouvelle "œuvre d’art".<br />
Lent et incessant est le travail de l’homme pour donner une forme juste à chaque vase.<br />
Même lorsque certaines de ces pièces sont identiques car réalisées d’après le même<br />
modèle, elles évoquent la main qui les a pétries, pour devenir de fait des objets uniques.

le caratteristiche di sfumatura, tonalità e invecchiatura inconfondibili della terracotta grezza.Le immagini di<br />
questa pagina ne sono l’esempio. Le tinte sono resistenti all’esterno, dall’aspetto satinato rerealizzate assolutamente<br />
con componenti naturali.<br />

In keeping with decorative trends that emphasize colours of the environment, the landscape, the sun, the sea,<br />
the sand, the frost, <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong>’s prized terracotta has adopted new colour tones which leave the unmistakable<br />
hues, tonalities and aged appearance of raw terra cotta unaltered. The images found on this page are examples<br />
of this. The outdoor-resistant dyes produce a glazed look and are made from completely natural ingredients.<br />
Although the colour palette is accurate, it should be considered an approximation.<br />
Die hochwertige Terrakotta <strong>Poggi</strong> <strong>Ugo</strong> kleidet sich in neuen Farbtönen, wobei die typischen Schattierungen<br />
und Tönungen unverändert bleiben. Bedacht dabei die dekorativen Tendenzen und eine Zugehörigkeit der<br />
Farben mit der Umgebung und der Landschaft, der Sonne, dem Meer, dem Sand und dem Frost zu bevorzugen.<br />
