T H E L O C A T I O N
The project is located in “La Colònia Güell”, a
company town created in 1890 by a businessman
called Eusebi Güell in the municipality of
Santa Coloma de Cervelló, in the outskirts of
Barcelona at that time.
The interest to move away from the existing
social conflicts in the city made the new industry
to be considered within the framework of a
company town.
Over the years, the union movement and workers’
demands came to the Colony and in the
context of the crisis in the textile sector in 1973,
the factory ceased its activity .
In 1990 the Colonia Güell complex was declared
a Site of Cultural Interest - Historical
Complex, establishing the protection of the
most relevant buildings as well as the general
characteristics of the building.

T H E P R O J E C T
The project consists of a rehabilitation of one
of the old factories, today in disuse. We choose
this location to reactivate the back of the company
town.
While currently the façade represents
the “end of the Colònia Güell”, with the
intervention the aim is for it to represent
not an end but a new center of activity.
