An event of undoubted influence, eagerly awaited by professionals in the sector, it deserves of course its reputation and will no doubt continue for a long time to play its role both as an almost worldwide showcase for the rotary-wing industry and as an event centred on the United States of America. However, at a time of «globalisation» of trade and the resulting economic developments, some may find it paradoxical that the majority of helicopters produced in the world today are produced by companies with roots in the Eurasian continent, and not by North American companies. Admittedly, but the geolocation of markets sets the rules much more surely than industrial establishments. Not to mention the historical legitimacy of helicopter and equipment manufacturers from the New World. Viewed from these angles, the future of this aerospace industry will be partly decided on American soil, since it accounts for nearly one-third of the aircraft in service. But only in part, when it is predicted that in fifteen years’ time, the other third of the world fleet will be operated in Asia. It is here that Europe, which is home to four industrial flagships at least - Airbus <strong>Helicopter</strong>s, Leonardo <strong>Helicopter</strong>s (the new owner of the Swiss brand Kopter), Safran <strong>Helicopter</strong> Engines and Thales, may see its role as a pivotal player strengthened. Russian <strong>Helicopter</strong>s’ position on the chessboard will have to be further clarified, even if it is true that its weight on the civil markets, at this time, remains relatively modest. In any case, the recovery in sales, whether observed from Europe, the United States or Asia, is not yet on the agenda. The recovery, which is expected in 2022, leaves manufacturers with little time to develop their offers and convince operators around the world of the superiority of their respective products. GÉOMARKETING ET LÉGITIMITÉ HISTORIQUE Heli Expo, le salon annuel de l’association internationale de l’hélicoptère (HAI), a fermé ses portes le 30 janvier dernier. Evénement à l’indubitable rayonnement, très attendu par les professionnels du secteur, il mérite bien sûr sa notoriété et continuera dans doute longtemps à jouer son rôle à la fois de vitrine quasi mondiale de l’industrie des voilures tournantes et de manifestation centrée sur les Etats-Unis d’Amérique. A l’heure de la « mondialisation » des échanges et des développements économiques qui en découlent, d’aucuns pourront cependant trouver paradoxal que la majorité des hélicoptères produits dans le monde, aujourd’hui, sont dus à des entreprises enracinées sur le continent eurasiatique, et non à des sociétés nord-américaines, justement. Certes, mais la géolocalisation des marchés fixe les règles bien plus sûrement que les implantations industrielles. Sans parler de la légitimité historique d’hélicoptéristes et d’équipementiers issus du Nouveau monde. Considéré sous ces angles, l’avenir de cette branche de la construction aéronautique se jouera en partie sur le sol américain, en effet, lorsqu’elle pèse près du tiers des appareils en service. Mais en partie seulement, lorsqu’il s’annonce que dans une quinzaine d’années, l’autre tiers de la flotte mondiale sera exploitée en Asie. C’est ici que l’Europe, alors qu’elle abrite quatre fleurons industriels au moins – que sont Airbus <strong>Helicopter</strong>s, Leonardo <strong>Helicopter</strong>s (nouveau propriétaire de la marque helvétique Kopter), Safran <strong>Helicopter</strong> Engines et Thales, verra peut-être se renforcer son rôle d’acteur pivot. La position de Russian <strong>Helicopter</strong>s sur l’échiquier devra encore se préciser, même s’il est vrai que son poids sur les marchés civils, à cette heure, demeure relativement modeste. Quoi qu’il en soit, la reprise des ventes, qu’elle soit observée depuis l’Europe, les Etats-Unis ou l’Asie, n’est pas encore à l’ordre du jour. Entraperçue pour l’année 2022, elle ne laisse finalement que peu de temps aux constructeurs, à l’échelle industrielle, pour fourbir leurs offres et convaincre les exploitants de la planète de la supériorité de leurs offres respectives.
