Les Malgaches accordent beaucoup d’importance
aux rites et traditions. Ces derniers encadrent certains
aspects de la vie et peuvent, selon les croyances,
procurer richesse, santé ou force. Parmi eux, le
Mivoaka itany (littéralement ‘sortir dans la cour’) est
une pratique très ancienne qui tient encore aujourd’hui
une large place dans le cœur des Malgaches.
Malagasy people attach great importance to rites
and traditions. They define certain aspects of life
and can, depending on beliefs, bring wealth, health
or strength. Among them, the Mivoaka itany (literally
'going out in the yard') is a very ancient practice that
still holds a large place in the hearts of Malagasy
people today.

e "Mivoaka itany" est le moment du premier
contact d’un nouveau-né avec le monde extérieur
et de fait, de la première sortie pour la mère qui
vient d’accoucher. Le père du nouveau-né consulte
un astrologue que les Malgaches appellent le mpanandro
pour connaître le jour propice à la sortie de l’enfant.
Le jour venu, les membres de la famille sont présents.
De très bon matin, avant le lever du jour, la mère porte son
bébé dans ses bras. Si elle ne peut pas le faire, un parent
proche, non orphelin ni de père ni de mère, le fera à sa
place. Si le nouveau-né est un petit garçon, ses parents
l’emmèneront visiter l’étable et les zébus pour qu’il soit fort
et que richesse et prospérité l’accompagnent durant toute
son existence. Si c’est une fille, ils visiteront ensemble les
champs, les puits et les prés pour qu’elle devienne une
bonne travailleuse et s’habitue aux travaux des champs
car, traditionellement, c’est le rôle d’une bonne épouse.
Avant de rentrer à la maison, les personnes présentes à
la cérémonie devront faire trois fois le tour de la maison
afin d’éliminer toutes les mauvaises ondes et ne pas les
ramener à l’intérieur.
The "Mivoaka itany" is the moment of a newborn's
first contact with the outside world and indeed
the first outing for the mother who has just
given birth. The father of the newborn child
consults an astrologer, whom the Malagasy people call
the mpanandro, to find out the right day for the baby to
go outside.
When the day comes, family members are present. Very
early in the morning, before daybreak, the mother carries
her baby in her arms. If she cannot do so, a close relative,
who is not an orphan, will do it for her. If the newborn is
a little boy, his parents will take him to visit the stable
and the zebu so that he will be strong and wealthy and
prosperous throughout his life. If it is a girl, they will
visit the fields, wells and meadows together so that she
becomes a good worker and gets used to the work in the
fields because that is, traditionally, the role of a good
wife. Before returning home, the people present at the
ceremony will have to go around the house three times
in order to eliminate all bad vibes and not bring them
back inside.
