LA CHRONIQUE
D’ESTELLE
ESTELLE’S
COLUMN
SOYONS BIO...
Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Chaumet...).
Estelle’s recipe for fighting aging: an inspirational and dizzying observation
of life from the fortieth floor.
Wife, mother-of-three, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, freelancer…
all of her roles have their story to tell: yours.
After fifteen years working in marketing, Mademoiselle Pop was born
ten years ago. Her role: to titillate busy working girls who wanted to nurture
their femininity. She bravely made her way into the French capital’s most
prestigious companies (Guerlain, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin,
Chaumet, etc.).
Estelle’s viewpoint is lucid, touching and hilarious. She’ll make you laugh,
cry and live life to the full.
STRIKE ! on a marqué 10 points.
signe, on maigrit.
On choisit.
a l’air fatigué.
ERREUR !!!! STOP !!!!! NON !!!!
Diet, schmiet!:
Every one of us is in charge of the most variable
enterprise there is: our body. Our figure goes
from looking amazingly svelte one minute
to podgy and flabby the next. Our BMI is
constantly fluctuating, so we desperately seek
to keep it in check by – dare I say it? – dieting.
Paying to lose weight is a very female thing to do. If
you don’t pay, how can you expect to slim down? Personally,
I have no idea.
So, off I go to see a nutritionist (codename: The Meanie)
to buy my “Broccoli Green Card”.
We kick off with a weigh-in as I stand in my underwear,
looking like a lamb on its way to slaughter.
If that wasn’t bad enough, she then comes at me with a
needle, aimed at my Sloggi-covered buttock. Bullseye
– ten points!
My favourite part is the end of the appointment, when
The Meanie says, “You can have as many spices and
unsweetened drinks as you like, and remember: you’re
not on a diet, you’re just rebalancing your food intake.”
I walk out with the perfect antidote to sociability: no
oil, no sugar, no alcohol, no sex, no friends, no going
out, no family.
At the beginning, people are very envious of my
willpower. When they ask, “Are you on a diet?”, I
answer, “Me? No way, I just love courgettes [you
idiot!]” That very same person, in six months’
time, is bound to quip, “Of course, you always look
lovely,” with a hint of…but haven’t you put on a bit
of weight?
Keeping schtum is the key! If you want to slim down,
just start hiding away whenever you eat. If you’ve
got no friends left after a month, it’s a good sign: it
means you’re losing weight!
After two months, if you’re sick of the sight of radishes,
asparagus, tomatoes and peppers, it’s a good
sign: it means you’re losing weight!
After three months, if your marriage is going down
the drain, sod it! You may have promised to love
your husband forever more, but that doesn’t necessarily
mean all the time, does it? The same goes for
rosé wine and crisps. Lose weight or be happy, it’s a
choice you have to make. It’s a good sign…
After four months, if your friends start telling you
that you look tired, it’s a good sign…
After five months, if you walk into the Levi’s store,
select a pair of super skinny high-waisted jeans and
start admiring your new derriere in the mirror, it’s a
good sign: you’ve done it!
NOPE!!! It’s not over yet…
This is when the stabilisation process begins, which
is often hindered by the “popcorn” effect: you go
away for the weekend, start to relax the rules a bit
and BOOM! In just a few days, all your effort has
gone to waste. But it’s a good sign: it means you’re
living your life again!
The road to slenderness is full of stops and starts,
which sets a kind of rhythm for our life. The day we
lose weight without trying is the day that something
serious has affected our appetite, which is a bad sign.
Could dieting be the most mundane thing in
our lives?
I’ll leave you to work that out…
Glamorously yours
