FEDERATING ALL
THE LOCAL PLAYERS
IN A DYNAMIC
CYBERSECURITY
BY ALEXANDRE
ECOSYSTEM KEILMANN
From October 15 th to 25 th , Pascal Steichen, the
CEO of SECURITYMADEIN.LU, took an active
part in this year’s Cybersecurity Week which
took place in Luxembourg. It consisted in
several events aiming at decrypting the latest
trends and at promoting cybersecurity, while
highlighting the most innovative solutions
provided by the dynamic – and still growing
– local ecosystem. Therefore, BEAST met
with him to decipher the current state of
cybersecurity in Luxembourg.
For the first time, Cybersecurity Week 2019 actually lasted more than a
week in Luxembourg, since the topic has gained significant importance
over the last years. This edition actually consisted in more than 40
conference sessions, in a dozen workshops and meetings and also brought
multiple expert working groups together. «Once again, we were able to
federate all the players but also the different targeted audiences. It’s a
great success and we are proud to bring together cybersecurity experts –
notably through the hack.lu event – and many other professionals with, for
instance, several CEOs participating to networking sessions and breakfasts
organized by our partners,» comments Pascal Steichen.
He then shares the example of a couple of events which took place
last October: Arendt discussed the legal and compliance aspects of
cybersecurity, as well as the introduction of the NIS Directive, Fedil focused
on the industry-side and presented its cyber hygiene self-assessment
tool, Luxinnovation discussed new technologies and more specifically IoT
in the automobile industry, etc. Finally, innovative startups and young
talents took part in an investors session and later in a hackathon. «It
clearly shows that cybersecurity is not just an IT-related topic: it now
impacts every single sector. A couple of them are not represented yet, but
we are already working on it and on including them in the next editions,»
adds the CEO. Moreover, during these insightful 10 days, SECURITYMADEIN.
LU signed a strategic partnership with IoT Inspector and now offers a costeffective
way to automatically and effectively identify weak points in the
firmware of IoT devices. With the participation of the French embassy, the
«Paris Call for Trust and Security in the Cyberspace» was also discussed
during a session aiming at convincing more Luxembourgish cybersecurity
actors to join the initiative and subscribe to its guidelines. As explained by
Pascal Steichen, «the government of Luxembourg has been supporting it
since its launch in November 2018, and it advocates the implementation
of what is now called cyber diplomacy!»
SECURITUMADEIN.LU, as an agency tasked and supported by the Ministry
of the Economy, offers a series of services to private actors, ranging from
the definition and implementation of cybersecurity strategies destined
to SMEs and thorough risk analysis, to, in case of incident, the support
of a CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team). «We have also
launched the C3 – Cybersecurity Competence Center – two years ago.
This private-public partnership is helping businesses to better protect
themselves against the growing number of cyber threats, and has recently
released a map of all 300+ cybersecurity local players.
