COLLABORATING AND BUILDING
THE SOCIETY OF THE FUTURE
We are living in a changing world that
is full of uncertainties, and therefore
opportunities. As an 80s baby, my
routine as a child and young adult had
nothing to do with the way Millennials
now envision life. Whether they are
at work or at home, the concepts of
sharing, collaborating and therefore
caring, have now become some of their
main drivers in life. For the benefit of
all of us.
A little more than a decade ago, we still
had to go to the bank to sign up for a
credit card, needed to look through the
shelves to find the «flyest» sneakers
and actually just wanted to hit the
court for a friendly, yet competitive,
pick-up game of basketball. Nowadays
everything’s tech: finance, art, fashion
and even sports. Did you know that
the most famous e-Sports «athletes»
are getting paid more than a pretty
decent soccer or basketball player 30
years ago?
Some banks are not dealing with
payments anymore and are relying on
innovative tech startups. Robots have
replaced humans in many factories
for several good reasons: safety,
productivity, efficiency and more.
Nowadays, data is the cornerstone of
most innovations and notably enables
the creation of autonomous cars that
will soon hit the road.
According to most experts, the future
holds no limits. These technologies are
the results of mathematics, science
and human creativity, which we need
to cherish and encourage at all levels,
from the youngest of age, to the
workplace and even after retirement,
to stay alert and «à la page».
These transformations are also made
possible thanks to the collaboration
between all counterparts, which allows
the creation of powerful ecosystems.
We witnessed the creation of the
first Peer 2 Peer solutions in the early
2000s, with consumers illegally sharing
music and movies. We later saw the
rise of the sharing economy with the
advent of unicorns such as Uber and
Airbnb, which provide customers with
innovative solutions without actually
owning cars and hotels, but leverage
the goodwill of drivers and hosts.
These solutions are all advocating the
mutualization of resources.
Currently, companies are favoring
coopetition in order to push
themselves forward and develop neverseen-before
products and services.
Luxembourg, with its small and yet
dynamic environment, but also with
the support of public institutions and
its government, is well-equipped to
lead the way in our digital future.
