the female character is treated at the
same time in thick, thin and intermediate
lines, that is to say modulated to render
light and shadow through metaphorical
interpretative suggestions, the nude
schematizing the prototype state of
grace, which characterizes the female
representations of Augustin Costinescu’s
work. In front of a cup of coffee, the seminude
drawn ladies assert the graphic
conciseness that can be reached by the
artist’s craftsmanship and the play of
volumes in near-far alternation. Over
time, the drawings of nude and feminine
beauty as subjects of representation have
sometimes become freer interpretations
in terms of treating anatomy, Augustin
Costinescu being interested in the poetry
of the atmosphere, the mysteries induced
by such a theme. From small, interrupted
lines, arranged in horizontal registers,
creating the impression of floating, it sets
the details lapidary, leaving the creative
fantasy to support a spiritual nude,
highlighting the full power of analysis
and stylization, and unifying the network
of divided circuits of the line, admirably
fixed in the frame shape.
