are the result of the use of warm and cold
colours in different registers, crowned by
the maximum brightness of the yellow full
of lyricism and freshness. As a chromatic
dominant, it gives monumentality to his
compositions, architects them according
to the rules imposed by the painter,
creating vibrant spaces, full of light and
joy, with maximum expressiveness. The
yellow in Augustin Costinescu’s canvases
belongs to the divine component of his
being, to the rebound induced by the
harmonies of the world, which
predisposes to communication through
the tensions of expression, through energy
exchanges inner and outer nature of the
artist.
Readable in the various effects and
feelings impressed to the twodimensional
support, from serenity and
sublimity, to the state of well-being and
the dynamics of life, these conscious and
subconscious elements are traced in
intense yellow touches, rhythmically
joined by short or long routes or paths
elaborated in wide splashes of colour,
giving the impression of falling
meteorites or dazzling optical effects,
tensioning the bright surface of pure,
intense, violent, strident, reduced in
intensity, diluted yellow... It is
impressive the artist’s ability to model
the yellow according to his feelings. The
way it is involved in his creation, this
warm, compacted or transparent nuance,
giving the viewer the impression of a
perpetual regeneration of the world,
shows us how the painter maintains the
analogies with what is eternal, with the
strength and masculinity of the universe,
with a beneficial part of our diurnal side,
potentiating its tones in the vicinity of
white, ocher and orange, or in red, blue
and green neighbouring sounds.
Augustin Costinescu’s palette is
much more lighter now than in the
canvasses of past period of his creation
when, under the influence of a more
pronounced synthesis and under the
fascinating dome of the coloured grays,
he created works of aesthetic value,
comparable to the recent ones,
announcing from one creative period to
another, not the change of vision, but the
evolution that was going to shape and
define his originality. From the generous
colour schemes, the artist became closer
to the analytical surfaces in figurative
contours, from a weighted calm gray
tone, followed the way of the fauve
direction, without exaggerating,
remaining in the protective core of the
idea that painting must be beautiful, to
represent the artist’s sensitive side, the
invisible dimension of his interior, and
his truth.
