It's now common knowledge that machines<br />
make our everyday lives easier. There are small robot<br />
vacuum cleaners that can keep our homes<br />
clean without our help and fridges that<br />
independently create shopping lists.<br />
However, the latest technological trend<br />
is worrying: an ever increasing number of<br />
flesh and blood employees could soon be<br />
replaced by machines and software.<br />
According to the "Job-Futuromat" database<br />
created by the ARD Association of Public Broadcasting<br />
Stations, almost a third of jobs can already be<br />
between 50 and 100% performed by computers, machines<br />
and robots. It was a few years ago that researchers<br />
and scientists began exploring artificial intelligence. And<br />
today the idea that machines and systems can not only<br />
perform tasks independently but also learn and adapt to<br />
their environment continues to fascinate. However, the<br />
initial enthusiasm for AI is now being tempered by greater<br />
concerns. What does it mean for society if people are<br />
no longer "needed"? Today we already have intelligent<br />
service and care robots that support (human) workers.<br />
But will these robots eventually replace them? Technological<br />
progress has far-reaching consequences for us all.<br />
If more and more jobs can be replaced by more effective<br />
robots, what will happen to all the employees? In the<br />
near future half of Germany's working-age population<br />
could be unemployed – which would be a social worst<br />
case scenario! However, technological progress also<br />
offers scope for the development of new tasks and activities<br />
and heavy investment is being carried out in technology<br />
professions in particular. And for the time being<br />
you should simply enjoy the advantages that modern<br />
technology and artificial intelligence already offer us.<br />

Konkurrenz?<br />
Dass uns Maschinen den Alltag erleichtern, ist<br />
nichts Neues mehr. Es gibt kleine Staubsauger-Roboter, die<br />
ohne unsere Hilfe die eigenen vier Wände<br />
sauber halten, und Kühlschränke, die selbstständig<br />
Einkaufslisten erstellen. Doch der<br />
neueste technische Trend ist beängstigend:<br />
Immer mehr Beschäftigte aus Fleisch und<br />
Blut könnten durch Maschinen und Software<br />
ersetzt werden. Laut der von der deutschen<br />
ARD initiierten Datenbank »Job-Futuromat«<br />
kann bereits jetzt ein knappes Drittel aller Berufe zu 50 und<br />
100% von Computern, Maschinen und Robotern ausgeführt<br />
werden. Bereits vor einigen Jahren stürzten sich die Forscher<br />
und Wissenschaftler auf die künstliche Intelligenz. Und auch<br />
heute hat die Vorstellung von Maschinen und Systemen, die<br />
Aufgaben nicht nur selbstständig ausführen, sondern auch<br />
die Fähigkeit besitzen, zu lernen und sich an ihre Umgebung<br />
anzupassen, nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren. Doch zu<br />
der anfänglichen Begeisterung mischen sich auch immer<br />
größere Sorgen. Was bedeutet es für die Gesellschaft, wenn<br />
die Menschen nicht mehr »gebraucht« werden? Schon heute<br />
gibt es intelligente Service- und Pflegeroboter, die (menschliche)<br />
Arbeitskräfte unterstützen. Doch wird diese Unterstützung<br />
bald in ein Ersetzen münden? Der technische Fortschritt<br />
hat dramatische Auswirkungen auf uns alle. Wenn immer<br />
mehr Jobs durch effektivere Roboter ersetzt werden können,<br />
wohin dann mit all den Beschäftigten? In naher Zukunft<br />
könnte die Hälfte aller Erwerbstätigen in Deutschland<br />
arbeitslos werden – das wäre ein sozialer Gau! Doch der<br />
technische Fortschritt bietet auch Raum für die Entstehung<br />
neuer Aufgaben und Tätigkeiten, besonders in Technologieberufe<br />
wird stark investiert werden. Und bis dahin genießen<br />
Sie einfach die Annehmlichkeiten, die uns die moderne<br />
Technik nebst künstlicher Intelligenz schon heute bietet.<br />

No es ninguna novedad el hecho de que las<br />
máquinas nos faciliten el día a día. Hay pequeños robots<br />
aspiradores que mantienen limpias las cuatro paredes sin<br />
nuestra ayuda y neveras que confeccionan por su cuenta<br />
la lista de la compra. Sin embargo, la última tendencia<br />
tecnológica resulta alarmante: cada vez más trabajadores<br />
de carne y hueso podrían ser sustituidos por máquinas y<br />
software. Según la base de datos «Job-Futuromat» promovida<br />
por la ARD, en la actualidad ya hay casi un tercio<br />
de trabajos que se puede realizar entre un 50 y un 100%<br />
por ordenadores, máquinas y robots. Desde hace varios<br />
años, los investigadores y los científicos han apostado<br />
por la inteligencia artificial. Hoy se tiene también la idea<br />
de máquinas y sistemas que no sólo pueden realizar las<br />
tareas de forma autónoma, sino que también tienen la<br />
capacidad de aprender y adaptarse a su entorno. Pero al<br />
entusiasmo inicial también se le suma una preocupación<br />
cada vez mayor. ¿Qué supondría para la sociedad que los<br />
hombres dejasen de ser «útiles»? En la actualidad, ya<br />
existen robots que se ocupan de diferentes cuidados y<br />
servicios que complementan la mano de obra (humana).<br />
¿Llegará esa ayuda a convertirse en breve en una sustitución?<br />
El avance de la técnica tiene efectos dramáticos<br />
sobre todos nosotros. Si cada vez se pueden reemplazar<br />
más trabajos por robots más efectivos, ¿qué hacemos con<br />
todo estos trabajadores? En un futuro cercano, la mitad<br />
de todos los asalariados en Alemania podrían perder sus<br />
puestos de trabajo. ¡Esto supondría una catástrofe social!<br />
No obstante, el avance de la técnica también implica la<br />
creación de nuevos trabajos y actividades, por lo que se<br />
invertirá especialmente en las profesiones tecnológicas.<br />
Así que hasta que llegue ese momento, disfrute sencillamente<br />
de las comodidades que nos brinda hoy en día la<br />
tecnología moderna junto con la inteligencia artificial.<br />

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs),<br />
also known as gastric acid blockers,<br />
are among the most frequently prescribed<br />
drugs in the world. These include<br />
drugs with the active substances omeprazole,<br />
pantoprazole, lansoprazole,<br />
esomeprazole and rabeprazole.<br />
It has recently come to light that long-term use of PPIs<br />
may cause more side effects than previously thought. The<br />
German Society of Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic<br />
Diseases (DGVS) therefore advises that long-term<br />
medication should only take place under medical supervision<br />
and with a clear diagnosis. PPIs have been associated<br />
with an increased risk of osteoporosis, vitamin B12<br />
and magnesium deficiency and inflammations caused by<br />
imbalanced gut flora. Kidney failure, dementia and heart<br />
attacks have also been mentioned – though experts from<br />
the DGVS do not consider the link to have been proven<br />
as some of the research data is contradictory. This means<br />
serious side effects are rare and only occur after years of<br />
use. PPIs are therefore among the safest drugs.<br />
Acute intolerances are extremely rare and can<br />
often be avoided by changing the active substances.<br />
Long-term medication should only take place for medically<br />
sound reasons and then the patient should be tested<br />
annually for vitamin B12 and magnesium deficiency.<br />
A recurring problem is that patients take PPIs incorrectly,<br />
which is to say for too long, in incorrect doses and<br />

verordneten Medikamenten. Zu ihnen<br />
zählen Medikamente mit den Wirkstoffen<br />
Omeprazol, Pantoprazol, Lansoprazol,<br />
Esomeprazol oder Rabeprazol.<br />
In jüngster Zeit mehren sich Hinweise, dass eine langfristige<br />
Einnahme von PPI mehr Nebenwirkungen verursachen<br />
könnte, als bislang bekannt. Eine Dauermedikation sollte<br />
deshalb nur unter ärztlicher Betreuung und bei klar abgesicherter<br />
Diagnose erfolgen, empfiehlt die Deutsche Gesellschaft<br />
für Gastroenterologie, Verdauungs- und Stoffwechselkrankheiten<br />
(DGVS). Vor allem ein höheres Risiko für<br />
Osteoporose, Vitamin B12- und Magnesium-Mangel wird<br />
genannt und Entzündungen wegen einer aus dem Lot<br />
geratenen Darmflora. Auch Nierenversagen, Demenz und<br />
Herzinfarkt werden erwähnt – wobei der mögliche Zusammenhang<br />
aus Sicht von Experten der DGVS nicht bewiesen<br />
ist, da die Studienlage dazu teils widersprüchlich ist.<br />
Ernsthafte Nebenwirkungen sind insgesamt gering<br />
und treten erst nach jahrelangem Gebrauch auf. Die PPI<br />
gehören damit zu den sichersten Medikamenten überhaupt.<br />
Akute Unverträglichkeiten treten sehr selten auf und<br />
können oft durch einen Wechsel der Wirkstoffe vermieden<br />
werden. Eine Dauermedikation sollte nur in medizinisch<br />
begründeten Fällen stattfinden und dann sollte jährlich der<br />
Vitamin B12- und Magnesium-Spiegel bestimmt werden.

also without a precise diagnosis. A precise diagnosis –<br />
possibly also including a gastroscopy – should always be<br />
made prior to a prescription of medication. PPIs will only<br />
be effective where a condition such as reflux (heartburn),<br />
gastritis or even a stomach ulcer has been established.<br />
In addition, the patient should also be aware that<br />
medication may not be effective since the effectiveness<br />
of PPIs rests on the inhibition of the new production<br />
of gastric acid, i.e. the acid already produced<br />
and which is sensitive in the stomach continues to<br />
cause symptoms. For maximum effectiveness and<br />
improvement of the condition, PPI tablets should<br />
therefore be taken for two to three days.<br />
Unfortunately, for many patients who buy the drugs<br />
themselves from a pharmacy or have them prescribed by a<br />
GP, the dosage is often incorrect. Many then take the PPIs<br />
in too small a dose or – because they do not experience<br />
a sufficient improvement – for too long a period of time.<br />
Knowledge of the half-life of the individual preparations<br />
(between 8 and 16 hours) is also useful to<br />
enable the patient to take the medication<br />
effectively. This naturally also requires<br />
extensive knowledge of his medical history.<br />
It is particularly important to ascertain<br />
when the ailments are experienced<br />
(frequently at night) and possible triggers<br />
(i.e. large meals in the evening).<br />
In summary: PPIs are among<br />
the most effective and safest<br />
drugs in the treatment of acidrelated<br />
diseases. Due to possible<br />
side-effects and for<br />
cost reasons, use should<br />
be restricted to verified<br />

Problematisch ist immer wieder, dass Patienten die<br />
PPI falsch einnehmen. Eine genaue Diagnosestellung<br />
sollte immer Voraussetzung einer Medikamentenverordnung<br />
sein. Nur wenn dabei eine Erkrankung wie Reflux<br />
(Sodbrennen) oder Gastritis (Magenschleimhautentzündung)<br />
oder gar ein Ulcus (Magengeschwür) festgestellt<br />
wurde, können die PPI ihre heilende Wirkung entfalten.<br />
Dazu muss der Patient dann aber auch wissen,<br />
dass eine Einnahme bei Bedarf nicht funktionieren<br />
kann, da die Wirkweise der PPI auf einer Hemmung<br />
der Neuproduktion der Säure im Magen beruht, d.h.<br />
die schon produzierte und im Magen befindliche<br />
Säure sorgt natürlich noch weiterhin für Symptome.<br />
Um eine optimale Wirkung und damit Besserung der<br />
Beschwerden zu erreichen, müssen die PPI Tabletten<br />
daher über 2 bis 3 Tage eingenommen werden.<br />
Leider stimmt bei vielen Patienten, die sich die<br />
Medikamente selbst in der Apotheke kaufen oder denen<br />
sie von einem Hausarzt verordnet werden, auch die<br />
Dosierung nicht. Vielfach nehmen dann diese Patienten<br />
die PPI in zu niedriger Dosis und – weil sie keine ausreichende<br />
Besserung erfahren – über viel zu lange Zeit<br />
ein. Auch das Wissen über die Halbwertszeit der einzelnen<br />
Präparate (zwischen 8 und 16 Stunden) ist sinnvoll,<br />
wenn man dem Patienten eine effektive Medikamenteneinnahme<br />
ermöglichen will. Dazu bedarf es natürlich<br />

Vorsicht vor den Prozessionsraupen<br />

vigilant when out and about: for pine processionary<br />
caterpillars are on the prowl<br />

Prozessionsraupen sind wieder unterwegs!<br />
Pine processionary caterpillars make their home in the<br />
branches of the local pine trees. In order to develop<br />
into moths the caterpillars make their way down from<br />
their nests to the ground, where they burrow into the<br />
earth and develop further to reach maturity. This "migration"<br />
period is a dangerous time of the year for us<br />
and our four-legged friends. The bodies of these small<br />
caterpillars are covered with hairs, which are called<br />
trichomes. These work loose in the wind and upon contact<br />
and can be dangerous for people and animals.<br />
People generally suffer skin reactions such as<br />
reddening, swellings and blisters. There are not<br />
usually serious consequences provided that you do<br />
not suffer a strong allergic reaction. Nonetheless,<br />
you should immediately visit a doctor in the event<br />

wie Rötungen, Schwellungen und Pusteln<br />
aus. Gravierende Folgen treten im Normalfall<br />
nicht auf, sofern man nicht hochallergisch reagiert.<br />
Besuchen Sie bei Hautkontakt jedoch trotzdem sofort<br />
einen Arzt. Bei Kleinkindern sollte man<br />
ganz besonders vorsichtig sein.<br />
Katzen und vor allem Hunde tendieren<br />
bei ihren Streifzügen durch<br />
die Landschaft dazu, alles und jeden<br />

try to rinse it out as well as you<br />
can. The faster you react in such<br />
an emergency situation, the less<br />

schnell wie möglich Ihren Tierarzt<br />
an. Wenn Sie wissen, dass<br />
Ihr Tier eine Raupe im Maul<br />
hatte, versuchen Sie, wenn<br />
möglich, das Maul mit Wasser<br />
so gut es geht auszuspülen. Je<br />
schneller man bei diesem Notfall<br />
reagiert, desto geringer sind<br />

EL NUEVO REGLAMENTO EUROPEO EN<br />
MATERIA DE SUCESIONES<br />
Die neue EU-Erbrechtsverordnung<br />
Y el reglamento europeo en materia de<br />
sucesiones entró en vigor el 16 de agosto de 2015<br />
y es aplicable a todas las sucesiones mortis causa<br />
a partir del <strong>17</strong> de agosto de 2015. Este reglamento<br />
tiene consecuencias importantes en la tramitación<br />
de las sucesiones internacionales.<br />
Como es lógico esta modificación afecta también<br />
a las relaciones jurídicas hispano-alemanas,<br />
por ejemplo, de los alemanes que sean propietarios<br />
de inmuebles en España y que quieran pasar sus<br />
últimos días en España.<br />
Antes del <strong>17</strong> de agosto de 2015 se aplicaba<br />
tanto en España como en Alemania el derecho sucesorio<br />
de la nacionalidad del causante (fallecido).<br />
Esto ha cambiado totalmente y la sucesión se determina<br />
de acuerdo al derecho del estado en el que,<br />
al momento de la muerte, el causante tenía su última<br />
residencia. En el caso de un pensionista alemán<br />
que vive sus últimos días en España, esto significa<br />
que la determinación de quién será su sucesor se<br />
establecerá de acuerdo al derecho español. Este<br />
es bastante distinto del derecho alemán, especialmente<br />
respecto al derecho sucesorio del cónyuge<br />
(Berliner Testament) existen diferencias negativas<br />
importantes.<br />
El último domicilio habitual de acuerdo con el<br />
reglamento europeo en materia de sucesiones se<br />
sitúa en el lugar en el que se den determinadas circunstancias<br />
que pongan de manifiesto la residencia<br />
del causante en un determinado lugar o región. Para<br />
ello se tienen en cuenta las circunstancias reales.<br />
Especialmente se determina el lugar en el que se<br />

Vor dem <strong>17</strong>.08.2015 wurde sowohl in Spanien als<br />
auch in Deutschland das Erbrecht der Staatsangehörigkeit<br />
des Erblassers angewendet. Dies hat sich nun<br />
vollständig geändert und die Rechtsnachfolge unterliegt<br />
dem Recht des Landes, in dem der Erblasser zum<br />
Zeitpunkt seines Todes seinen letzten gewöhnlichen<br />
Aufenthalt hatte. Für den Fall des deutschen Rentners,<br />
der in seiner Wohnung in Spanien lebt, bedeutet dies,<br />
dass sich seine Erbfolge nach dem spanischen Recht<br />
richten würde. Dieses weicht mitunter stark vom deutschen<br />
Recht ab, insbesondere im Ehegattenerbrecht<br />
(Stichwort: Berliner Testament) gibt es wesentliche<br />
Unterschiede zum Nachteil des Ehegatten.<br />
Den letzten gewöhnlichen Aufenthalt im Sinne der<br />
EU-Erbrechtsverordnung hat der Erblasser dort, »wo er<br />
sich unter Umständen aufhält, die erkennen lassen,<br />
dass er an diesem Ort oder in diesem Gebiet nicht nur<br />
vorübergehend verweilt«. Dabei wird auf die tatsächlichen<br />
Verhältnisse hingewiesen. Es wird insbesondere<br />
festgestellt, wo der Schwerpunkt der sozialen Kontakte<br />

ofrece a los ciudadanos de los estados<br />
miembros (salvo Reino Unido, Irlanda y Dinamarca)<br />
la posibilidad de elegir el derecho aplicable,<br />
de la nacionalidad que posean. En este sentido un<br />
alemán puede elegir que en caso de muerte sea<br />
aplicable el derecho alemán a su sucesión.<br />
Habitualmente recomendamos a nuestros clientes<br />
la elección de un derecho para su sucesión,<br />
dado que ello agilizará en el futuro la división de la<br />
herencia y ayuda a la seguridad jurídica.<br />
La elección del derecho aplicable debe llevarse<br />
a cabo mediante una disposición testamentaria.<br />
Ello se hace a través de un testamento que debe ser<br />
otorgado ante un notario. Los gastos para ello no<br />
son muy altos.<br />
Otra novedad del reglamento europeo en materia<br />
de sucesiones es la creación del certificado<br />
sucesorio europeo. A través de este documento<br />
los herederos podrán demostrar en la mayoría de<br />
los estados de la unión europea su condición de<br />
heredero.<br />
Para terminar, debe hacerse constar que el<br />
nuevo reglamento europeo en materia de sucesiones<br />
no afecta al impuesto de sucesiones.<br />

anschließende Nachlassverteilung gegenüber den<br />
spanischen Behörden deutlich beschleunigt und für<br />
Rechtssicherheit sorgt.<br />
Die Rechtswahl hat im Rahmen einer Verfügung<br />
von Todes wegen zu erfolgen. Dies ist im Regelfall<br />
ein Testament, welches notariell beurkundet werden<br />
sollte. Die Kosten hierfür sind relativ gering.<br />
Eine weitere nennenswerte Neuerung durch<br />
die EU-Erbrechtsverordnung ist die Schaffung eines<br />
Europäischen Nachlasszeugnisses. Durch dieses<br />
einheitliche Dokument können Erben ihre Erbenstellung<br />
in den meisten EU-Ländern nachweisen.<br />
Abschließend sollte noch darauf hingewiesen<br />
werden, dass die EU-Erbrechtsverordnung und die<br />
Vornahme einer Rechtswahl keinen Einfluss auf die<br />
anfallende Erbschaftssteuer haben.<br />

20<strong>17</strong> IN FRANKFURT<br />
The year has passed and we attended the New Year’s Party of Von Poll<br />
Immobilien at the head office in Frankfurt to celebrate the new start of 20<strong>17</strong>.<br />
It is tradition to celebrate the New Year with all the Von Poll Real Estate<br />
members from the national and international offices. After a nice reception<br />
and catching up with all associates we enjoyed the dinner party in<br />
the Palmengarten, which was lovely decorated as always! After the yearly<br />
trophy awards had been presented to the lucky winners the “amazing “<br />
New Years's show started with lots of fireworks!!! But there was more to<br />
come... opposite the dinner area music and a light show kept the guests<br />
dancing all night long. We hope that 20<strong>17</strong> will be a good and successfull<br />
year for all our VP colleagues.<br />

"FINEST <strong>Marbella</strong>" presents one<br />
of <strong>Marbella</strong>'s icons: Condé Rudi.<br />
He is a German aristocrat who came to <strong>Marbella</strong><br />
in 1956 – and saw and conquered: Count<br />
Rudolf von Schönburg-Glauchau-Waldenburg.<br />
The legend of Condé Rudi, as he is respectfully<br />
called, started in 1956, but the foundation<br />
stone, the beginning, goes back to 1946. At<br />
that time, when <strong>Marbella</strong> was still a small and<br />
unimportant fishing village, Prince Maximilian<br />
von Hohenlohe-Langenburg bought a plot of<br />
land for just a few cents and developed it as a<br />
family home. In 1954 his son Alfonso made an<br />
old farmhouse into a small motel. Two years<br />
later Alfonso invited his cousin, Condé Rudi,<br />
to <strong>Marbella</strong>. From then onwards the count put<br />
his stamp on the project. With the aid of this<br />
graduate of the Lausanne Hotel Academy, the<br />
old farmhouse with 20 rooms was turned into<br />
a holiday hotel, and the fishing village likewise<br />
began to change. Relations of the Hohenlohe<br />
family, including Bismarcks and Metternichs<br />
were the first members of high society, out of<br />
family attachment, to spend their valuable holiday<br />
time in the small hotel.<br />
From that point it developed more and more<br />
into a hot-spot for high society, which thronged<br />
there in the 1970s. Condé Rudi's signature was<br />
easily recognisable: true to the style of an aristocratic<br />
house, pure relaxation, privacy and<br />
professional staff, rather than luxurious comfort,<br />
were the order of the day. Since more and<br />
more stars and starlets came and went from<br />

Ferienhotel und das Fischerdorf begann sich ebenfalls<br />
zu wandeln. Verwandte der Familie Hohenlohe,<br />
darunter Bismarck und Metternich, verbrachten aus<br />
Verbundenheit zu Alfonsos Familie als erste Mitglieder<br />
der höheren Gesellschaft ihre kostbare Zeit der<br />
Erholung in dem kleinen Hotel.<br />
Fortan entwickelte es sich immer mehr zu einem<br />
Hotspot für die High Society, die sich gerade in den<br />
1970er-Jahren die Klinke in die Hand gab. Die persönliche<br />
Handschrift Condé Rudis war zügig erkennbar:<br />
Gemäß einem herrschaftlich geführten Haus<br />
waren reine Erholung, Abgeschiedenheit und professionelles<br />
Personal statt luxuriöser Komfort angesagt.<br />
Obgleich sich auch der Komfort mit der Zeit<br />
weiter erhöhte, da immer mehr Stars und Sternchen

Hollywood greats such as Ava Gardner or Sean<br />
Connery stayed at the <strong>Marbella</strong> Club Hotel, as<br />
did leading politicians such as Prince Rainier of<br />
Monaco or Jackie Kennedy. The southern European<br />
atmosphere came to the fore. That atmosphere<br />
which at the time had fascinated Alfonso<br />
so much, when he took the idea of opening a<br />
hotel and made it a reality, though people said<br />
he was mad, since at that time nobody spent<br />
their holidays in the south of Spain. But, as time<br />
went by, the idea was to become as familiar as<br />
the sun which rises every day over the holiday<br />
paradise. The <strong>Marbella</strong> Club Hotel attracted<br />
high society from St. Tropez or Biarritz to the<br />

wurde, da zu dieser Zeit niemand in Südspanien<br />
Urlaub machte. Aber mit der Zeit sollte das Konzept<br />
aufgehen, wie es die Sonne über dem Urlaubsparadies<br />
jeden Tag tut. Das <strong>Marbella</strong> Club Hotel lockte<br />
die High Society aus St. Tropez oder Biarritz an<br />
das Meer zwischen Málaga und Gibraltar. Illustre

parties, and the prospect of meeting only people<br />
like themselves, enthused the high-society<br />
who's who list.<br />
But the financial side of the otherwise fine<br />
coin – since payment was more by ancestral tree<br />
than cash – forced Alonso in the 1980s (which<br />
the Count today calls "the years of disaster")<br />
into a partnership with the Lebanese businessman<br />
Mouaffak Al Midani, who shifted the focus<br />
onto ensuring that the hotel was fully booked.<br />
Thus tourist groups ended the exclusive nature<br />
of the <strong>Marbella</strong> Club, and it cut Condé Rudi to<br />
the quick to see how his "baby" had declined<br />
into a tourist stronghold. As a consequence, he<br />

Exklusivität des <strong>Marbella</strong> Clubs und das ging Condé<br />
Rudi schwer an die Nieren, denn er musste mit ansehen,<br />
wie sein »Baby« zu einer Touristenhochburg<br />
verkam. Konsequenz dessen war sein Abschied. In

himself to managing the <strong>Marbella</strong> Hill Club until<br />
in the mid-1990s – the time when the <strong>Marbella</strong><br />
Club was reborn with a focus on quality – the<br />
businessman David Shamoon took charge of the<br />
suffering hotel and fetched the count on board<br />
again as his advisor. A time of recovery and a<br />
return to customary exclusivity arrived. A luxurious<br />
resort was created around the Villa del Mar<br />
as a part of the exclusive Hotel <strong>Marbella</strong> Club.<br />
Today the husband of Princess Marie Louise<br />
of Prussia, great-great granddaughter of the last<br />
German Emperor Wilhelm II, and President of the<br />
German school, a man much loved in <strong>Marbella</strong>,<br />
can look back on over twenty-five years of work<br />

The Alhambra, built on the Sabikah Hill in Granada,<br />
is one of Europe's most visited monuments and<br />
was declared a world heritage site in 1984. The<br />
fortress’s name derives from the red colour of its<br />
walls. Its spectacular Arabic buildings, reminiscent<br />
of the fairy tales of 1001 Nights, have for many centuries<br />
fascinated locals and travellers alike.<br />
The oldest part of the Alhambra comprises the<br />
Alcazaba (citadel) and the Vermillion Towers (Torres<br />
Bermejas). The architect of today’s Alcazaba was<br />
Mohammed I, then Sultan of Granada. He constructed<br />
the ramparts around the castle and added three<br />
new towers: the Broken Tower, the Keep and the<br />
Watch Tower. The original building was used as a<br />
fortress and only became Mohammed's royal residence<br />
many years later. Many of the monarchs resided<br />
in the Comares Palace overlooking the Darro<br />
Valley. This complex comprises several buildings<br />
around the Court of the Myrtles surrounded by various<br />
porticos. The impressive design featuring intricate<br />
decorations and innumerable inscriptions are<br />
truly amazing.<br />
Die auf dem Sabikah-Hügel in Granada gelegene Alhambra<br />
zählt zu den meist besuchten Monumenten Europas<br />
und gehört seit 1984 zum Weltkulturerbe. Benannt wurde<br />
die Stadtburg nach der rötlichen Farbe ihrer Mauer. Seit<br />
jeher beeindruckt sie Einheimische und Weitgereiste mit<br />
ihren spektakulären arabischen Bauwerken, die ein bisschen<br />
an die Märchen von 1.001 Nacht erinnern.<br />
Der älteste Teil der Alhambra besteht aus der Alcazaba<br />
(Zitadelle) und den Roten Türmen (Torres Bermejas).<br />
Die Gestaltung der heutigen Alcazaba ist Mohammed I.,<br />
dem damaligen Sultan von Granada, zu verdanken. Er<br />
ummauerte die Burg und erweiterte diese um drei neue<br />
Türme: den zerbrochenen Turm, den Ehrenturm und den<br />
Wachturm. Dabei wurde das ursprünglich als Festung<br />
genutzte Bauwerk erst Jahre später von Mohammed als<br />
königlicher Sitz bewohnt. Viele der Monarchen residierten<br />
im Comares-Palast mit Ausblick über das Darro-Tal.<br />
Dieser Komplex besteht aus mehreren Gebäuden um<br />
den Myrtenhof, der von verschiedenen Säulengängen<br />
umgeben ist. Die imposante Gestaltung in Form von<br />
detaillierten Ausschmückungen und unzähligen Inschriften<br />
versetzen wirklich jeden ins Staunen.<br />

Below the walls of the fortress at the entrance<br />
to the Alcazaba we find the magnificent gardens.<br />
This is where probably the most spectacular<br />
view across the mystical city in Southern Spain is<br />
offered. The Western side of the gardens is bordered<br />
by a wall stretching all the way to the Vermillion<br />
Towers. Many kings used the Generalife<br />
as a place of recreation, offering seclusion from<br />
palace life. The erstwhile monarchs found relaxation<br />
in the simple atmosphere with its calming<br />
view over the valleys of the rivers Genil and Darro.<br />
The Nasrid Castles, decorated with Arabic<br />
writ-ings and ornaments, are part of the heart<br />
of the Alhambra. The inside of the domes have<br />
so-called stilted arches (Muqarnas) bridging the<br />
niches and walls – somewhat reminiscent of<br />

hier aus erhascht man den wohl schönsten Ausblick auf<br />

Roten Türmen verläuft. Um sich vom Palastleben zurückzuziehen,<br />
galt für viele Könige der Generalife als Erholungsort.<br />
Durch die schlichte Atmosphäre und den beruhigenden<br />
Ausblick auf die Flusstäler des Genil und Darro<br />
fanden eben dort die einstigen Monarchen ihre Ruhe.<br />
Zum Herzstück der Alhambra gehören die mit<br />
arabischen Schriften und Ornamenten verzierten Nasridenpaläste.<br />
Die Innenseite der Kuppeln ist mit den<br />
sogenannten spitzbogenartigen »Muqarnas« gestaltet,<br />
die ein wenig an Tropfsteinhöhlen erinnern und die die<br />
Nischen und Wände miteinander verbinden. Besonderes

stalactite caves. Special touristic highlight: the<br />
Court of the Lions with its twelve stone lions<br />
carrying a fountain. The Granada born poet Ibn<br />
Zamrak decorated the edge of the fountain with<br />
the words: “Blessed are the eyes beholding this<br />
garden of beauty.”<br />
And if you want to see even more, you can<br />
venture a little further. Here rises the imposing<br />
Palacio de Carlos V, constructed over 30 years and<br />
built directly adjoining the Alhambra on request<br />
of the Emperor. The courtyard with its Spanish<br />
Renaissance design is particularly impressive.<br />
This way or that, Granada is absolutely worth<br />
a visit. And even though the Alhambra is not one<br />
of the Seven Wonders of the World, it remains<br />
one of Europe's most beautiful places of interest.<br />
Touristenhighlight: der Löwenhof mit seinen zwölf steinernen<br />
Löwen, die einen Springbrunnen tragen. Der<br />
in Granada geborene Dichter Ibn Zamrak verzierte den<br />
Rand des Brunnens mit dem Spruch: »Selig ist das<br />
Auge, das diesen Garten der Schönheit sieht.«<br />
Und wer von diesem Palast nicht genug hat, der<br />
kann gleich noch nach nebenan gehen. Hier thront der<br />
Palacio de Carlos V, dessen 30-jähriger Bau auf Wunsch<br />
des Kaisers direkt neben der Alhambra angeordnet<br />
wurde. Vor allem der imposante Innenhof, der im Stil<br />
der spanischen Renaissance konzipiert wurde, ist sehr<br />
beeindruckend.<br />
So oder so ist Granada immer einen Ausflug wert.<br />
Und selbst wenn die Alhambra nicht zu den sieben<br />
Weltwundern zählt, so ist sie doch eine der schönsten<br />
Sehenswürdigkeiten Europas.<br />

Mijas Golf Club is one of the most<br />
acknowledged golf complexes in Spain. It<br />
offers two high level 18 holes courses<br />
totally different: Los Lagos and Los Olivos.<br />

Located at Mijas Golf Valley, by the Mediterranean sea<br />
that bathes the Costa del Sol in Málaga, and only 20<br />
minutes from Málaga Airport, Mijas Golf Club is the perfect<br />
choice for the area residents, as well as for a large<br />
variety of national and international players that come<br />
every year to enjoy its facilities.<br />
Los Lagos was the first of the two courses, built<br />
in 1976, while Los Olivos was created a few years<br />
later, in 1983. Both courses were designed by Robert<br />

Lagos sich über 52 Hektar erstreckt, ist Los Olivos<br />

Alternative. Der erste eignet sich gut als Wettkampfkurs<br />
für Spieler mit niedrigen Handicaps, der<br />
zweite bietet gute Übungsmöglichkeiten für Spieler<br />
mit mittleren/hohen Handicaps. Ein ganz besonderes<br />
»i-Tüpfelchen« bietet Los Lagos zusätzlich: Nach<br />
einer intensiven Umbauphase wurden die Greens<br />
nach USGA-Vorgaben erweitert und die Tee-Bereiche<br />
vergrößert. Zudem garantiert ein ausgeklügeltes<br />
Be- und Entwässerungssystem das schöne Spiel<br />
im Grünen zu jeder Zeit des Jahres – selbst während<br />
oder nach starkem Regen!<br />
Trent Jones following his philosophy of "Difficult Par,<br />
Easy Bogey", with very little rough, much water and<br />
fairly flat land. Los Lagos has an area of 52 hectares<br />
defined by its wide fairways lined with numerous<br />
lakes, hence the course name. In addition, the 9 lakes<br />
showed on the course turn the water into natural<br />
obstacles in 10 of the 18 holes. At the same time, the<br />
course presents a lot of bunkers and a great variety of<br />
autochthonous large size trees, strategically located<br />
to defend the wide flat greens. The NEW LAGOS<br />
COURSE offers large greens, built to USGA specifications,<br />
and at the same time, all the teeing areas have<br />
been also distended. A clever irrigation and drainage<br />
system has been installed all around the course, to<br />
permit the play at any season of the year (even with/<br />
after a hard rain).<br />
The second course of Mijas, Los Olivos, is<br />
smaller, approx. 40 hectares, and it over passed an<br />
important rebuilding between 2000-2001. Los Olivos<br />
stands out because of its smaller greens with more<br />
slope, well defended by bunkers. At the same time,<br />
the big number of Olive trees strategically located<br />
around the fairways, will require a more accurate and<br />
straight drive from the player. On the one hand, Los<br />
Lagos is considered a competition course, ideal for<br />
low handicaps; while, on the other hand, Los Olivos is<br />
the best choice for mid / high handicaps.<br />
