Artist & Designer. Head of the Metal Design department at
Art Academy of Latvia.
I generally work with the idea of a memory, or the memory
of an idea or place. It is in the way it happens that I find
inspiration from. For me this recollection happens within
the contradiction of filling an absence that can’t be filled
any other way than by recreating in new visual and tangible
forms. With my work I try to keep track of memories that can
no longer be kept, but in this way I can hold on to them. I don’t
see memory as an accurate recollection of events; rather a
selective process of preserving. Precious metals, minerals
and anything that will outlast me is the most wonderful
inspiration to create meaningful objects that can be kept as
heirlooms.
The Starting Point
Observing and listening to oneself deeply led to the revelation
of importance of collaboration and community.. Discovering
the desire to collaborate, listen, help, understand, act and
create based on hints given by other artists made the project
possible.
The result will be 13 pieces of jewelry each created for an
artist who spent this month at ARTELES with me. Deeply
personal, led by intuition and memories of our shared time
in ARTELES.
