About
I’m a Dutch photographer based in Wapenveld, a small village
in the north east of the Netherlands where I’m surrounded by
nature. With my photography, either traditional or alternative,
I explore philosophical and spiritual themes that aid me
within my own process individual and spiritual growth in
life. Themes like stillness, acceptance, gratitude or light
can always be found in my work. Within my practice of
photography I find meditation. A deceleration of time and a
profound sense of true connection to the entire world; always
unexpected, but certainly leaving an indelible memory.
With silence and objectivity in mind and leaving behind the
preconceived concepts of how the world should look like, I
photograph the beauty and wonder of the moment. I create
images in which time and space are irrelevant, there is only
one moment - the moment of ‘being
(alternative) Photography
During my month in Arteles I have worked on my cyanotype
project called ‘Genius Loci’. Genius Loci means the spirit of
the place. In this project I work together with the universal
elements to create cyanotypes of the place where I stay.
Arteles gave me the opportunity to fully drown myself
in the place and the art and let the spirit of the place and
the elementals guide me. I see myself as a facilitator in
this process. To capture the frosty atmospheres in my
cyanotypes felt like a little miracle every time they appeared.
Frost flowers shaped as feathers and roses, the rock surface
of the earth, the wind shapes of the air.. I was able to take the
spirit of Arteles back home with me in my art.
