tego czy jesteśmy ludźmi o poglądach socjalistycznych czy konserwatywnych i prawicowych. Krótko mówiąc, jeśli są
usuwani dziennikarze z mediów tylko dlatego, że mają poglądy lewicowe, albo tylko dlatego, że mają poglądy
konserwatywne, powinniśmy protestować. Dzisiaj np. w Polsce usuwani są dziennikarze tylko dlatego, że mają poglądy
konserwatywne. Oczekiwałbym zasady solidarności od pana Schulza i od innych kolegów również socjalistów i osób o
poglądach lewicowych, by wtedy protestowali, bo to pokazuje, że chodzi nam o standardy, a nie o polityczne rozgrywki.
Chodzi nam o rzeczywistą troskę o wolność mediów. Protestujmy wobec takich sytuacji wszędzie, gdzie mają one
miejsce, nawet gdy mają miejsce teraz, np. w Polsce.

Rui Tavares, em nome do Grupo GUE/NGL. – Senhora Comissária, eu ouvi-a com atenção e francamente não sei se estou
decepcionado ou se estou chocado com o trabalho da Comissão porque ainda não entendi se foi voluntariamente ou
involuntariamente que a Comissão caiu na armadilha do Governo húngaro.
O Governo húngaro decidiu-se a discutir algumas concessões, alguns pormenores na periferia e nada de fundamental
mudou nesta lei. Não mudou a composição absolutamente desproporcionada e parcial da Comissão de Media, não
mudaram as multas absolutamente asfixiantes para os títulos de imprensa e não mudaram todas as coisas que levam à
censura e à autocensura dos media. Mas o que é absolutamente vergonhoso em algo que foi dito aqui é que, a partir do
momento em que a Comissão arrancou uma concessão para que as multas não se apliquem aos jornais e aos títulos
estrangeiros, tudo passou a ficar bem. Isto parece-me uma perversão fundamental dos princípios da Europa, pós-89, da
Europa pós-queda do muro.
O que ela queria dizer é que nós não abandonaríamos os nossos irmãos europeus de qualquer país à censura e à repressão à
liberdade de expressão. Aparentemente, a Comissão fê-lo, mas o Parlamento continuará a ficar de olho, agora não só no
Governo húngaro, mas também na Comissão, porque é nosso dever e é nossa responsabilidade não deixar cair este tema
como a Comissão vergonhosamente o deixou fazer.

Mario Borghezio, a nome del gruppo EFD. – Signor Presidente, non sarà certamente da ricordare come esaltante questa
pagina di storia parlamentare. Le critiche e gli attacchi piovuti puntualmente sul governo ungherese, in concomitanza con
la Presidenza dell'Unione europea, sulla presunta totale difformità della legge sui media ungheresi rispetto alla normativa
europea, si sono ridotti a quello che erano: un tentativo strumentale e specioso, tra l'altro informato totalmente da un
pregiudizio ideologico, che è tanto più vergognoso quando viene utilizzato nei confronti di un paese che ha oggi nel suo
DNA la lotta per la libertà – come peraltro lo ha avuto anche nella sua storia, che tutti ricordiamo molto bene.
Resta e pesa come un macigno sulle forze politiche che hanno promosso questo non esaltante dibattito la responsabilità di
una manovra certo di non alto livello politico, inficiata pesantemente da queste connotazioni di pura ideologia e che ha
anche il difetto di gettare un'ombra immeritata sulla Presidenza dell'Unione europea per la prima volta – questo sì un
grande fatto politico e storico – di un paese ex comunista, oggi insieme a noi nella libertà.

Simon Busuttil (PPE). – Mr President, in the light of the announcement made by the Commission today, it is clear that
this debate has been overtaken by events and that there is no longer any reason whatsoever to proceed with the vote on the
resolutions tomorrow.
I believe that those who expressed genuine concern about the media law in Hungary were entitled to a response. What I
find worrying is that this Chamber is increasingly engaging in crusades against individual Member States – that
coincidentally happen to have EPP governments – before the Commission has fully investigated the matter, let alone
reached its conclusions. Worse than that: in this case, this was done despite the fact that we had a clear undertaking from
the Hungarian authorities at the highest level that, should the Commission raise any concerns about this law, they would be
prepared to change it, as they did.
What exactly was the point of this debate? What is the point of the resolutions tomorrow, if not political
instrumentalisation? The EPP stands firm in its commitment to respect for human rights and the rule of law, regardless of
the Member State concerned. There is no question about that. However, it is not willing to single out individual Member
States and condemn them summarily before the due process of law has been completed. Once it has been completed, we
should respect it. When this issue first came up last month, I said that politicising this issue was not just attacking a
Member State, but was also undermining the EU Presidency. Today, I feel that we have also undermined our own
institution. That cannot be right.
I sincerely appeal to all groups to withdraw the resolutions that are up for vote tomorrow – not suspend them, not postpone
them, but withdraw them – because there is no longer any basis for proceeding with this vote.
