2.5. LONGUEUR DE DIFFUSION DES EXCITONSqu’un film recuit avec un ancrage homéotrope possède une meilleure longueur de diffusiondes excitons qu’un film non recuit ?Ces expériences ont été effectuées en collaboration avec Samuel Archambeau du LGET.Dans sa thèse, il traite de ce sujet [9], c’est pourquoi nous n’y reviendrons pas en détail.Cependant, nous rappelons ici quelques points essentiels comme le choix du matériau, leprincipe de la mesure et les principaux résultats obtenus.Par ailleurs, il est à noter que ce travail est actuellement poursuivi au LGET par LamineCissé dans le cadre de sa thèse.2.5.2 Choix du matériauNous allons être amenés à orienter les films par recuit. Pour cela, il faut que le matériauutilisé possède, à de très faibles épaisseurs, les propriétés suivantes : la phase liquide isotropedoit être stable et l’ancrage des colonnes se faire de manière perpendiculaire aux interfaces.Le Bp2I2CEH est un cristal liquide colonnaire remplissant ces deux conditions (figure 2.7).Pour des épaisseurs d’environ 50 nm, la phase isotrope ne démouille pas et l’orientation estprincipalement homéotrope. En dessous de cette épaisseur, il peut y avoir coexistence dedomaines planaires et homéotropes.2.5.3 Principe de la mesurePour réaliser cette expérience, nous avons utilisé la technique de la fluorescence. La structuredes échantillons étudiée est illustrée sur la figure 2.8. Une couche de Bp2I2CEH, d’épaisseurd, est déposée sur une plaque de verre 4 . On recouvre une moitié de l’échantillon parun film de ZnPc. Cette couche est appelée “quencheur”, car elle va dissocier les excitons quiarrivent jusqu’à son interface. Cette dissociation est non radiative.La couche organique de Bp2I2CEH est excitée à une longueur d’onde de 466 nm. Pourcette valeur, l’intensité de fluorescence est maximale pour le Bp2I2CEH et nulle pour le ZnPc.Les excitons crées le Bp2I2CEH ont les possibilités suivantes : ils peuvent se désexciter dansla couche organique en émettant un photon ou se dissocier s’ils parviennent jusqu’à l’interface4 Lavée au méthanol pendant quelques minutes dans un bain à ultrasons, puis trempée dans de l’acidesulfurique44
