Well-foundedknowledge in diverse areas of natural sciencemakes Earth Scientists attractive candidates forgovernmental positions at different levels, particularlythose dealing with environmental protection,natural risks appreciation and geo-engineering.Other potential employers are research institutions,public and private offices which areinvolved in the resources, energy and civil engineeringsectors. The Master of Earth Sciences consistsof 4 different majors.SPECIALISATION• Major in Geology and Geochemistry (120ECTS): interactions between the Earth’s mantle,crust, hydrosphere and atmosphere withinthe «System Earth».• Major in Engineering Geology (90 ECTS): interactionbetween the built environment andgeological setting.• Major in Geophysics (120 ECTS): This programmeis devoted to processes of the Earth’sinterior connecting geophysical observationsat the surface with concepts and modelling ofphysical processes and material propertieswithin our planet.• Major in Geoscience (90 ECTS) (collaborationbetween the ETH Zurich and the University ofZurich): This programme is designed usingvarious teaching modules for students with aBSc in Geography or Earth Science.PRACTICAL INFORMATIONOrganiser: Department of Earth SciencesECTS credits: 90 or 120 (depending on major)Duration: 3 or 4 semesters(depending on major)Begin: possible each semesterLanguage: EnglishAdmission: BSc in Earth Science from a Swissuniversity, or from other universitiesand colleges world-wide (inaccordance with certain qualitycontrol conditions).
