ABSTRACTThe main objective of this study is to make available to the stakehol<strong>de</strong>rs in thepig sector, technical and economic data used for the operation of a pig farm. It isthe pig production analysis in the peri-urban area of Bobo-Dioulasso,specifically in the MEP farms.Methodology relies on surveys (transverse and retrospective) from producerstargeting the profile of farmers, their practices, socio-economic and zootechnicalperformance. Farmers are predominantly Catholic christians overkill for mostemployees and practice farming as a si<strong>de</strong>line. These are men to 90%. Pig barnsare either semi mo<strong>de</strong>rn (6/10) or mo<strong>de</strong>rn (4/10). The feed is based on grains ofdolomite and corn bran which are used by all farmers. Pow<strong>de</strong>ry fishmeal is usedby 80% of farmers and brewers grains by 70%. Large white pigs dominate indifferent breeding. The average herd is 86 pigs. The age at first calving rangedfrom 11 to 14 months and the number of calving year average is 2. Numericalaverage productivity per female per calving is 10 piglets. The weaning agevaries between 45 and 90 days. Dominant diseases remain are external parasitesand digestive diseases causing diarrhea. These conditions are present in 100% offarms. Farms show an annual average gross margin of 2 008 213 FCFA. Theaverage gross margin per fattened pig was14 184FCFA. It appears from thisstudy that the pig is a very profitable activity when it is well managed.Constraints are related to the quality conduct of production and processing. Theimprovement strategies should be geared towards the organization,accountability and coaching actors for better management of production in theinterest of <strong>de</strong>velopment of this farming.vii
