SPBS10Practical considerationsDO NOT relysolely on thedisplayed information when driving the vehicle.Be aware of the surroundings of the vehicle beforee and during use of thesystem. The reverse speed must be below 5km/h when theparking aid system is active.• The system incorporates highly sensitive ultrasonic sensors and uses fuzzy logic. The blindarea is minimal andthe SPBS10 has a long detecting range. The detection result measuresthe distance from a sensor to thesurface of theobstacle that reflects the waves. However, theuser must remember that the measured distance is influencedby the positions of the installedsensors, the shapes and locationsof obstacles, the reflecting angle and other factors. Therefore it is advisable to visually inspect the situation behind the vehicle before reversing.• Detection is not guaranteed in certain cases. A few examples:Reflection angleDepending on the reflection angle, the readingmay be distorted.Point A in this example may not be detected.Reflection angleSurface a is closer to the sensor than surfaceb, but surface b has a betterreflection so it willbe detected first whereas surface a may not bedetected at all.Point C may not be detected when the surfaceis smooth and shiny and angle A° is large.Obstacle heightAt first, the obstacle Ta which is below thesenor is detected. However, when Tcapproaches the vehicle, its reflection becomesstronger than that of Ta, so the system onlywarns about Tc.Surface of obstacleObstacles thatt strongly absorb ultrasonic soundwaves e.g. sponge or cotton fabrics are difficultto detect. Dueto absorption of clothes, personsmay only be detected within a range of ±1.3mbehind the vehicle.28.09.20097©Velleman nv
