3. Use the 1/8 in. hex wrench to turn the vertical alignment setscrews (Fig. E). If you move the cutterhead from the raised tothe lowered position and the laser line moves horizontally awayfrom the blade, turn the vertical alignment set screw clockwise tocorrect. If the laser line moves horizontally toward the blade, turnthe vertical alignment set screw counter-clockwise to correct.(Fig. F)4. Reinstall the cover removed in step 2.CAUTION: Never turn the brass hex nut in Fig. E.TO SET KERF ADJUSTMENT1. Use the 1/8 in. hex wrench (A) Fig. H to turn the kerf adjustmentscrew that sets the laser line to either side of the test cut (Fig.G). To adjust the line, turn the kerf adjustment screw counterclockwiseto move the line toward the blade and clockwise tomove the line away from the blade.2. Remove the padlock. The laser miter saw is ready for normal use.LASER MAINTENANCEFor best laser performance, perform the following maintenanceregularly:1. Carefully clean sawdust from each laser lens (A) Fig. I with acotton swab (B). Do not use solvents of any kind since they maydamage the lens. Avoid touching sharp points of the saw bladewith your hands or fingers. Dust build-up can block the laser andprevent it from accurately indicating the line-of-cut.2. Remove the blade from the saw and clean pitch build-up fromthe blade (Fig. J) Pitch build-up can block the laser and preventit from accurately indicating the line-of-cut.GENERAL CUTTING OPERATIONS1. Your machine has the capacity to cut standard 2 x 4’s, lying flat oron edge, at the 45° right and left miter angles (Fig. A1 & A2).2. A standard 2 x 6 can be cut in the 90° straight cut-off position inone pass (Fig. A3).3. Cutting a standard 4 x 4 can be accomplished with one pass(Fig. A4).4. This machine has the capacity to accurately cut crown moldings35and other bevel-type cuts (Fig. A5).5. Cutting various sizes of plastic pipe is an easy job with thismachine (Fig. A6). Material must be CLAMPED OR HELDFIRMLY TO THE FENCE TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING. This isextremely important when making angle cuts.BODY AND HAND POSITION (FIG. A7 & A8)Proper positioning of your body and hands when operating the mitersaw will make cutting easier, more accurate and safer. (Fig. A7)Never place hands near cutting area. Place hands no closer than 6 in.(152.4 mm) from the blade. Hold the workpiece tightly to the table andthe fence when cutting. Keep hands in position until the trigger hasbeen released and the blade has completely stopped. ALWAYSMAKE DRY RUNS (UNPOWERED) BEFORE FINISH CUTS SOTHAT YOU CAN CHECK THE PATH OF THE BLADE. DO NOTCROSS HANDS, AS SHOWN IN FIGURE A8. Keep both feet firmlyon the floor and maintain proper balance. As you move the miter armleft and right, follow it and stand slightly to the side of the saw blade.Sight through the guard louvers when following a pencil line.CUTTING ALUMINUMAluminum extrusions such as used for making aluminum screensand storm windows can easily be cut with your compound miter sawwhen fitted with a blade recommended for this material. The bladesupplied with this saw is not recommended for cutting aluminum. When cutting aluminum extrusions, or other sections that can be cutwith a saw blade and are within the capacity of the machine, positionthe material so the blade is cutting through the smallestcross-section (Fig. 32). The wrong way to cut aluminum angles isillustrated in Fig. 33. Be sure to apply a stick wax to the bladebefore cutting aluminum stock. This stick wax is available at mostindustrial mill supply houses. The wax provides proper lubricationand keeps chips from adhering to the blade.
