- 15 -Il est donc difficile, au premier abord, de déterminer sices animaux sont impubères, prépubères ou pubères parce quenous ignorons leur âge réel. La technique de la déterminationde l,'âge basée sur la proportionnalité entre le poids del'animal et le poids de la lentille sèche, n'a pu être appliquéeici car, nous n'avons pas eu assez d'animaux d'âge connupour pouvoir établir une courbe témoin (test de LORD, 1959).Le classement de FREMMING et coll. (1955) sur lemacaque, repris par HALL (1965) et TAHIRI (1973) sur lepatas, établit une correspondance entre l'évolution du poidsde l'animal, et l'organisation histologique testiculaire.Selon TAHIRI (1973), la mâturité sexuelle n'apparaît chez lepatas mâle de Côte d'Ivoire, que lorsque le poids corporelest proche de 6.500 g. Partant de ce critère, nous avonsclassé nos singes mâles en deux groupes en fonction du poidscorporel (tableau 1).2.1.5 - Hébergement et élevage des animaux2.1.5.1 - HébergementLes animaux sont gardés en plein air dans des cagesgrillagées (3 m x 3 m x 2 m) et recouvertes d'un toit depaille. La densité maximale est de trois individus par cage.Dans cet espace, les singes sont soumis aux mêmes variationsde température, de lumière et d'humidité que dans la nature.Les singes en cours d'expérimentation, sont transférés dansdes cages plus restreintes (60 x 80 cm) munies d'un panneaucoulissant permettant de coincer l'animal dans un espaceréduit de la cage.2.1.5.2 - ElevageLes animaux sont nourris de restes d'alimentsconstitués essentiellement de riz, de pâte, de frites, deviande, de poissons, de légumes, de fruits divers etc...Cette nourriture à laquelle ils s'adaptent très bien, n'est
