On estime qu'en dix-sept ans d'activité, Georges Méliès réalisa entre 500 et 600 courts métrages de 1 à 40 minutes,<br />
en privilégiant trois genres : la féerie, la science-fiction et la reconstitution historique. Il est à noter que<br />
selon la législation en vigueur concernant <strong>le</strong>s droits d'auteur, l'ensemb<strong>le</strong> des réalisations de George Méliès<br />
sont passées dans <strong>le</strong> domaine public au 1 er janvier 2009, l'année suivant la soixante-dixième depuis sa mort.<br />
Le Voyage dans la Lune est <strong>le</strong> 20 e film de Georges Méliès, qui tourne depuis six ans (son premier titre est Escamotage<br />
d'une Dame au théâtre Robert-Houdin est son premier film, et date de 1896). Méliès est déjà connu du public<br />
notamment avec L'Affaire Dreyfus (1899), Cendrillon (1899) et L'Homme à la tête de caoutchouc (1901).<br />
It is estimated that over a period of seventeen years, Georges Méliès made 500-600 short films, of between 1<br />
and 40 minutes in <strong>le</strong>ngth, in three main genres: fairyta<strong>le</strong> (féerie), science fiction, and historical fiction. Note<br />
that in compliance with existing copyright <strong>le</strong>gislation copyright, all of Georges Méliès’ works have been in the<br />
public domain since 1 st January 2009, the year following the seventieth anniversary of his death.<br />
A Trip to the Moon is Georges Méliès’ 20 th film, produced ten years after he first started making films, (his first,<br />

in 1896). Méliès was already well-known to the public thanks to L'Affaire Dreyfus (1899), Cendrillon (1899) and<br />
