6Infrastructures et champs d’applicationLes activités <strong>de</strong> <strong>recherche</strong> du CRH s’appui<strong>en</strong>t sur un <strong>en</strong>semble d’infrastructures <strong>de</strong> pointe adaptées aux différ<strong>en</strong>ts champs d’applicationcouverts par la programmation sci<strong>en</strong>tifique. En particulier, le <strong>C<strong>en</strong>tre</strong> dispose du pavillon Envirotron (où sont situés la plupart <strong>de</strong> seslaboratoires), <strong>de</strong> laboratoires spécialisés dans d’autres pavillons du campus (notamm<strong>en</strong>t l’Unité d’imagerie moléculaire du pavillon C.E.-Marchand), d’un complexe <strong>de</strong> serres <strong>de</strong> 3000 m 2 , d’infrastructures adaptées à l’étu<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong>s gazons et <strong>de</strong>s plantes ornem<strong>en</strong>tales <strong>en</strong>pépinières, et d’un parc d’instrum<strong>en</strong>ts analytiques performants.L’EnvirotronSiège social du CRH, l’Envirotron comporte sept laboratoires <strong>de</strong> pointe et unedizaine <strong>de</strong> laboratoires spécialisés, où sont réalisés une partie importante <strong>de</strong>stravaux <strong>de</strong> <strong>recherche</strong> « fondam<strong>en</strong>tale » du <strong>C<strong>en</strong>tre</strong>. Construit <strong>en</strong> 1992, cepavillon ultra-mo<strong>de</strong>rne abrite l’administration et la gran<strong>de</strong> majorité <strong>de</strong>sprofessionnels <strong>de</strong> <strong>recherche</strong> et <strong>de</strong>s étudiants-chercheurs du CRH. Il abriteégalem<strong>en</strong>t plusieurs professeurs <strong>de</strong> la FSAA. L’Envirotron héberge <strong>de</strong>schercheurs d’Agriculture et Agroalim<strong>en</strong>taire Canada, qui occup<strong>en</strong>t unlaboratoire <strong>de</strong> biologie moléculaire et <strong>de</strong>s espaces <strong>de</strong> serres et bureaux ainsique certains interv<strong>en</strong>ants externes du milieu horticole, notamm<strong>en</strong>t la Société<strong>de</strong>s Amis du Jardin Roger-Van <strong>de</strong>n H<strong>en</strong><strong>de</strong>.Les serresLes chercheurs du CRH partag<strong>en</strong>t l’un <strong>de</strong>s plus importants complexes <strong>de</strong> serresexpérim<strong>en</strong>tales au Canada. Plusieurs projets <strong>en</strong> relation avec la programmationsci<strong>en</strong>tifique y sont m<strong>en</strong>és.Pour le secteur ornem<strong>en</strong>tal, <strong>de</strong>s projets appliqués port<strong>en</strong>t sur l’efficacité <strong>de</strong> nouveauxsubstrats <strong>de</strong> culture, <strong>de</strong> nouvelles régies <strong>de</strong> fertilisation et d’éclairage, et surl’évaluation <strong>de</strong> nouvelles variétés horticoles d’intérêt économique. Plusieurs projetsont par ailleurs été réalisés au cours <strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>rnières années pour le secteur maraîcher,incluant notamm<strong>en</strong>t <strong>de</strong>s étu<strong>de</strong>s sur les différ<strong>en</strong>tes sources d’énergie <strong>en</strong> serriculture,sur les métho<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> contrôle du climat à l’échelle <strong>de</strong>s serres et sur la qualité <strong>de</strong> latomate <strong>de</strong> serre. Des projets relatifs aux substrats <strong>de</strong> culture et à la phytoprotectionont égalem<strong>en</strong>t été réalisés.Pépinières et gazonsLe programme <strong>de</strong> <strong>recherche</strong> <strong>en</strong> pépinière du CRH a pour objectif d’améliorer laproduction <strong>de</strong>s plantes ligneuses ornem<strong>en</strong>tales <strong>en</strong> cont<strong>en</strong>ants et <strong>de</strong> développer<strong>de</strong>s métho<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> production qui soi<strong>en</strong>t respectueuses <strong>de</strong> l’<strong>en</strong>vironnem<strong>en</strong>t. Plusspécifiquem<strong>en</strong>t, <strong>de</strong>s étu<strong>de</strong>s sont m<strong>en</strong>ées <strong>de</strong>puis plusieurs années sur laproduction d’arbres <strong>en</strong> cont<strong>en</strong>ants, sur l’aération <strong>de</strong>s substrats à base <strong>de</strong>compost, <strong>de</strong> tourbe et d’écorce, sur l’influ<strong>en</strong>ce <strong>de</strong>s <strong>en</strong>grais à libération l<strong>en</strong>te,sur la récupération et le recyclage <strong>de</strong>s eaux d’irrigation et <strong>de</strong> fertigation et surl’emploi <strong>de</strong> champignons mycorhizi<strong>en</strong>s <strong>en</strong> pépinière.Le programme <strong>de</strong> <strong>recherche</strong> sur les gazons vise à optimiser le développem<strong>en</strong>tet la r<strong>en</strong>tabilité <strong>de</strong>s productions et <strong>de</strong> l’<strong>en</strong>treti<strong>en</strong> du gazon au Québec. Ceprogramme compr<strong>en</strong>d <strong>de</strong>ux secteurs d’application : la production <strong>de</strong> gazon <strong>en</strong>plaques et les terrains <strong>de</strong> golf. Les travaux réalisés port<strong>en</strong>t <strong>en</strong>tre autres sur lesmétho<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> protection hivernale <strong>de</strong>s verts <strong>de</strong> golf, sur l’évaluation <strong>de</strong> cultivarsdans le cadre <strong>de</strong>s essais du National Turfgrass Evaluation Program du U.S.Departm<strong>en</strong>t of Agriculture et sur la répression <strong>de</strong>s maladies. Unique auQuébec, un vert <strong>de</strong> golf expérim<strong>en</strong>tal d’une superficie d’un <strong>de</strong>mi-hectare a étémis <strong>en</strong> place il y a quelques années sur le campus <strong>de</strong> l’Université <strong>Laval</strong>, avec lacollaboration <strong>de</strong> plusieurs organismes québécois du secteur privé intéressés àce secteur d’activités. Des parcelles expérim<strong>en</strong>tales (0,5 acre) <strong>de</strong>stinées à la<strong>recherche</strong> sur les gazons sont égalem<strong>en</strong>t disponibles aux chercheurs.
