SYSTEM@TIC PARIS-REGION LES PROJETS DE R&D AU CŒUR DE LA RÉVOLUTION NUMÉRIQUE
///// GT Télécoms
The ECOFRAME project proposes a new metro ring network technology at the convergence of the pure access, and of the metro. The
objective of this project is to demonstrate the viability for new ring nodes exploiting the best of optics and electronics.
In particular, it is proposed to have a ring node in two parts : one electronic box interconnected to the client layer for the packet
processing and one optical box to manage the add/drop ports but also the transit traffic. The expected results of the project are a
new cost effective packet metro network architecture, a network simulator and a network prototype for the physical validation of
the concept.
PROJECTS PLANS & DELIVERABLES
The key challenge for the project is to demonstrate that an opto-electronic
technology can bring new added values with respect to a pure
electronic solution. To reach this goal, the project will have 3 workpackages
:
> WP1 : Network model, Network & System specifications, Benchmarking
MAJOR PHASES OF THE PROJECT
>
>
>
>
>
Phase 1 : Definition of the network model (WP1)
Phase 2 : Study of the concept (architecture & MAC protocol; WP2) and technology
evaluation (test of components & systems; WP3)
Phase 3 : Benchmarking, cost analysis, performance analysis
Phase 4 : Realisation of a simulation tool for the performance analysis (WP2),
realisation of a network demonstrator (WP3)
Phase 5 : Analysis of the results & proposal for next steps (WP1)
STATUS
> Regular meetings and audios since the kick off (February 1st, >
2007)
>
Technical status :
>
> Phase 1, 2 and 3 almost completed. Phase 4 : Focus of the second
year.
> Deliverables completed : D1.1, D1.2, D2.1 and D3.1. >
> First simulation results of the network performance
>
>
WP2 : Architecture design, Protocol analysis and design, performance
issues
WP3 : Technology test and validation, design of packet FEC, ring
network demonstrator
The project will provide a physical demonstrator, allowing the validation
of the concept and will provide theoretical studies to ensure the
performance aspects as well as cost issues through benchmarking studies
First simulation results of a packet FEC
First analysis of possible integrated building blocks
Demonstrator status : one network section in operation (one
transmission span of 50 km + one P OADM). Error free measurements
in transmission and in switching regime
Dissemination : Publications in international conferences. One invited
paper at ECOC 2008
