SYSTEM@TIC PARIS-REGION LES PROJETS DE R&D AU CŒUR DE LA RÉVOLUTION NUMÉRIQUE
///// GT Télécoms
CARRIOCAS studies and implements an ultra high bit rate (up to 40Gb/s per channel) optical fiber core network to meet the
scientific and industrial needs in remote usage of computing and storage resource for high performance interactive/collaborative
simulations and virtual prototyping
PROJECTS PLANS & DELIVERABLES
>
>
To develop cost-effective and reliable 40Gb/s transmission systems
To adapt network architecture, management, protocols, algorithms
to distributed application requirements (high connectivity
dynamics, stringent quality of service …)
MAJOR PHASES OF THE PROJECT
Year 1: Requirements, Specifications, deployment of the experimental
network at 10Gb/s
Year 2: End of spec, start of implementation, deployment of the
40 Gb/s transponders
Year 3: End of implementation and overall experimentations
including applications
STATUS
>
>
>
>
>
40 Gb/s transceivers prototypes developed and validated
in laboratory
Experimental network deployment: 10Gb/s phase achieved (August
2007), 40Gb/s upgrade to be finalized end of June 2008
Distributed storage: servers deployed in the 4 locations, first interconnection
tests
High resolution visualization: Picture walls (2Mpixels at CEA, 24
Mpixels at EDF) under installation, usage of visualization portal experimented
by operational EDF staff
Specification of control and management for enhanced application-network
cooperation under finalization
>
>
To implement high performance applications: High resolution interactive
visualization on a remote picture wall and distributed
massive data storage system
To test and validate the approaches on an experimental network
