Alexandre Chemetoff is an architect, urban planner and landscaper.
Beyond the wording of these three titles his approach is to continually combine these disciplines into one, namely the project.
He has chosen to practice his activity in a free and open fashion by refusing to acknowedge the limits and borders between the
disciplines.
Chemetoff’s field is one which a number of architects have ceased to occupy. It ranges from the building of a wall in the context of
the town to the implantation of a garden or the design of urban furnishings.
Alexandre Chemetoff prefers, in the light of theoretical considerations, a point of view which is connected to concrete actions.
Alexandre Chemetoff willingly places himself at the margins of prevailing trends and seeks to create a unique aesthetic which
draws on the sources of the surrounding world.
The project is then the process of undertaking an action, of looking, of listening, of engaging in a dialogue, of political action in
terms of how it effects the life of the city, and aims to create lively and livable places, a cultivated environment be it closed and
covered or open to the sky.
After the exhibition “Constructed Situations” was held at Bordeaux in 2009, the Ville de Genève in partnership with the Maison de
l’Achitecture (ma-ge.ch) presents Alexandre Chemetoff & Associés « Droit de visite» at Forum Faubourg between 11th May
and 2nd July 2010.
The exhibiton shows his work in progress, his working methods and the approach of the project to situations which are always
different and particular.
Rather than providing an exhaustive vision ot the whole of the agency’s work through “images” of its achievements it sets out to explore
the way in which projects are developed, a working method that respects the world, which is aware of its contexts and which
seeks to be economical in both financial and constructive terms.
A conversation comes with this collection of photographs, plans, models, materials, samples, source images, books… together
they all constitute the environment of Alexandre Chemetoff and facilitate an understanding of his work and his cross-disciplinary
position.
