Saputo investira un million de dollars pour supporter des
Olympiens et futurs athlètes de pointe
Montréal, le 7 octobre 2010– Saputo inc. a annoncé aujourd’hui que l’entreprise renouvelle son
partenariat avec la Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec en remettant un chèque d’un million
de dollars pour les cinq prochaines années, à raison de 200 000 $ annuellement. Elle en a aussi profité
pour présenter les 27 récipiendaires de la 11 e édition du Programme de bourses Saputo, qui se
partagent un montant total de 100 000 $ en bourses cette année.
Saputo est fière d’encourager le développement des athlètes émérites et de ceux de la relève. Ces
jeunes, qui sont les modèles de notre société sur la scène nationale et mondiale, méritent grandement
notre soutien et appui dans leur quête de succès. Saputo croit en l’importance de demeurer actif, de
favoriser de saines habitudes de vie, et de s’accomplir par le dépassement de soi.

De son côté, le président de la Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence M. Claude Chagnon, a déclaré : « Cet
investissement d’un million de dollars représente 10 % de l’objectif de la Fondation qui est d’amasser
10 millions de dollars d’ici la fin de 2015. Cette contribution témoigne bien la leadership et la confiance
de l’entreprise Saputo envers la Fondation et les athlètes de pointe ainsi que l’importance qu’elle
accorde à la relève du Québec. »
Parmi les boursiers cette année, certains se sont particulièrement démarqués sur la scène
internationale en commençant avec la vice-championne olympique des Jeux de Pékin 2008 en
taekwondo, Karine Sergerie; la lutteuse olympique Martine Dugrenier, récipiendaire d’une sixième
bourse Saputo, qui a été sacrée championne du monde pour une 3 e année consécutive en septembre
dernier; en ski acrobatique – bosses, les sœurs Maxime, Justine et l’Olympienne Chloé Dufour-
Lapointe, qui a terminé 5 e à ses premiers Jeux olympiques à Vancouver l’hiver dernier, en
haltérophilie, Marilou Dozois-Prévost, qui a terminé 10 e aux Jeux olympiques de Pékin 2008 et qui a
récemment remporté la médaille d’or aux Jeux du Commonwealth; en patinage de vitesse courte piste
Valérie Maltais, qui a terminé 14 e au 1 500 m aux Jeux olympiques de Vancouver. Notons aussi la
plongeuse Meaghan Benfeito , 4 e au 10 m individuel et synchronisé lors des derniers Mondiaux
aquatiques 2009; le judoka Sergio Pessoa, qui a remporté la Coupe du monde de Miami en 2010
chez les 60 kg et la lutteuse Dorothy Yeats , qui a remporté la médaille d’or aux Jeux olympiques
jeunesse 2010 disputés à Singapour.
De plus, Saputo supporte cette année 10 des meilleures joueuses de soccer identifiées Relève ou Élite,
âgées de 15 à 17 ans. Cette sélection a été faite en collaboration avec la Fédération de soccer du
Québec.

Saputo invests one million dollars to support olympians and
future high performance athletes

Montreal, October 7, 2010 – Saputo Inc. announced today it is renewing its partnership with the
Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence by investing an amount of one million dollars over the next
five years, which represents $200,000 annually. During this 11 th edition of the Saputo Bursary Program,
Saputo inc. also presented this year’s 27 recipients, who share a total amount of $100 000 in
bursaries.
Saputo is proud to support the development of today’s high performance athletes as well as future
ones. These young athletes, who represent our society on the national and international scenes, highly
deserve our support in their quest for success. Saputo believes in the importance of staying active,
choosing a healthy lifestyle and surpassing oneself.
Mr. Claude Chagnon, President of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence, added: “This
investment of one million dollars represents 10% of the Foundation’s objective to raise 10 million
dollars by the end of 2015. This further demonstrates Saputo’s commitment and confidence in the
Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence and, in the high performance and future athletes of
Quebec.”
Among the bursary recipients this year, several have excelled on the international scene. The silver
medallist at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing in taekwondo Karine Sergerie; the Olympic
wrestler Martine Dugrenier, recipient of a sixth Saputo bursary, who just won a third World Title; the
sisters in freestyle skiing-moguls Maxime, Justine and Olympian Chloé Dufour-Lapointe, who
finished 5 th at her first Olympic Games in Vancouver; in weightlifting, Marilou Dozois-Prévost who
finished 10 th at the last Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and recently won the gold medal at the
Commonwealth Games; in short track speed skating Valérie Maltais who finished 14 th on 1 500m at
the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Other notable mentions include diver Meaghan Benfeito, 4 th on
10m individual and synchro at the 2009 World Aquatic Championships; in judo, Sergio Pessoa who
won a World Cup in Miami in 2010 in the 60kg category and in Olympic wrestling, Dorothy Yeats,
who won the Gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
This year, Saputo also encouraged 10 of the best female soccer players between the ages of 15 and
17, identified as Hopeful or Elite. This selection was made in collaboration with the Quebec Soccer
Federation.
