Invasive en Atlantique <strong>et</strong> en Manche Occidenta<strong>le</strong> • DESCRIPTION Coquil<strong>le</strong> relativement triangulaire avec une quarantaine d'arêtes concentriques. La surface externe est lustrée, de brune foncée à verte-olive. La surface interne est blanche avec une marque pourpre plus ou moins prononcée <strong>le</strong> long de la marge <strong>et</strong> des traces musculaires. Le bord dorsal est épais avec trois dents cardina<strong>le</strong>s <strong>et</strong> une dent latéra<strong>le</strong> fortement développée. • ECOLOGIE/BIOLOGIE Biotope : on trouve c<strong>et</strong>te espèce <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong>s eaux douces <strong>et</strong> saumâtres sur divers sédiments : limon, sab<strong>le</strong>, argi<strong>le</strong>, gravier. El<strong>le</strong>s peuvent tolérer des salinités supérieures à 13 psu pendant de courtes périodes <strong>et</strong> des températures comprises entre 2 <strong>et</strong> 30°C. On la trouve en général <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong>s eaux turbu<strong>le</strong>ntes car el<strong>le</strong> a besoin de fortes teneurs en oxygène dissous. Mode de nutrition : filtreurs suspensivores. Cyc<strong>le</strong> de vie : espèce hermaphrodite, el<strong>le</strong> possède un testicu<strong>le</strong> <strong>dans</strong> la partie antérieure <strong>et</strong> un ovaire <strong>dans</strong> la partie postérieure. <strong>Les</strong> gamètes mâ<strong>le</strong>s sont libérés <strong>dans</strong> l'eau <strong>et</strong> récupérés par un autre clam. L'autofécondation est possib<strong>le</strong>, <strong>et</strong> <strong>dans</strong> ce cas la fécondation a lieu <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong> gonoducte. Dans <strong>le</strong>s deux cas, <strong>le</strong>s zygotes se développent <strong>dans</strong> des chambres d'incubation <strong>dans</strong> la cavité branchia<strong>le</strong>. <strong>Les</strong> larves pédivéligères sont rej<strong>et</strong>ées <strong>dans</strong> la colonne d'eau après 4-5 jours d'incubation. Ces larves semb<strong>le</strong>nt plus aptes à ramper qu'à nager. Jusqu'à 400 larves par jour peuvent être relarguées. La maturité sexuel<strong>le</strong> est atteinte à une tail<strong>le</strong> de 6,5-7 mm. Durée de vie : 2 à 4 ans. • UTILISATION Dans son pays d'origine, <strong>le</strong> clam est consommé <strong>et</strong> sert de nourriture aux animaux domestiques. Il est éga<strong>le</strong>ment vendu <strong>dans</strong> des magasins d'aquariophilie où il est connu sous <strong>le</strong> nom de "pygmy clam" ou "gold clam". Aux Etats-Unis, il est utilisé comme appât. • DISTRIBUTION Origine : Asie du Sud-est : Russie, Thaïlande, Philippines, Chine, Taïwan, Corée, Japon. Introduction : l'espèce Corbicula fluminea a été introduite avec l'espèce Corbicula fluminalis. Il semb<strong>le</strong>rait aujourd'hui qu'el<strong>le</strong>s soient une seu<strong>le</strong> <strong>et</strong> même espèce. Le genre Corbicula a tout d'abord été introduit accidentel<strong>le</strong>ment aux Etats-Unis où il a 102 108 été observé la première fois en 1938, puis en Amérique du Sud où <strong>le</strong> genre a été signalé entre 1985 <strong>et</strong> 1987. En Europe occidenta<strong>le</strong>, il est signalé pour la première fois en 1980, <strong>dans</strong> la basse Dordogne en France <strong>et</strong> <strong>dans</strong> l'estuaire du Tage au Portugal. En 1984, C. fluminalis est observée <strong>dans</strong> l'estuaire de la Weser en Al<strong>le</strong>magne. <strong>Les</strong> deux espèces sont ensuite vues en 1987 <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong> Rhin aux Pays-Bas. En 1989, C. fluminea est signalée en Espagne. Enfin, c'est en 1992 que C. fluminea apparaît en Belgique. Distribution régiona<strong>le</strong> : on trouve c<strong>et</strong>te espèce <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong> canal de la Somme <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong> <strong>bassin</strong> <strong>Artois</strong>-Picardie, mais aussi <strong>dans</strong> la Seine <strong>et</strong> <strong>dans</strong> l'Oise <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong> <strong>bassin</strong> Seine-Normandie. Distribution globa<strong>le</strong> : présente en Asie, en Australie, en Afrique, en Amérique du Nord <strong>et</strong> du Sud <strong>et</strong> en Europe (France, Portugal, Espagne, Pays-Bas, Suisse, Angl<strong>et</strong>erre, Roumanie). • MODES D’INTRODUCTION ET DE DISPERSION L'introduction a été involontaire, soit via <strong>le</strong>s salissures des coques de bateaux, soit via <strong>le</strong>s eaux de ballast. La larve peut être entraînée par <strong>le</strong>s courants. Le juvéni<strong>le</strong> <strong>et</strong> l'adulte peuvent produire un fil de mucus collant aidant au déplacement. Son expansion est aussi favorisée par un taux de croissance <strong>et</strong> une capacité de reproduction é<strong>le</strong>vés. <strong>Les</strong> oiseaux <strong>et</strong> mammifères peuvent perm<strong>et</strong>tre la dispersion de c<strong>et</strong>te espèce, ainsi que la construction de chenaux entre <strong>le</strong>s <strong>bassin</strong>s versants. • IMPACTS Sur l'habitat <strong>et</strong> <strong>le</strong>s espèces natives : c<strong>et</strong>te espèce entre en compétition pour l'espace <strong>et</strong> <strong>le</strong>s ressources avec <strong>le</strong>s autres filtreurs, peut favoriser l'expansion des prédateurs des mollusques <strong>et</strong> enfin peut avoir un rô<strong>le</strong> sur l'eutrophisation des rivières en cas de prolifération importante. Sur l'homme <strong>et</strong> ses activités : en milieu industriel, <strong>le</strong>s clams asiatiques engorgent <strong>le</strong>s circuits d'eau en pullulant à l'intérieur des tuyaux où ils meurent. <strong>Les</strong> coquil<strong>le</strong>s vides <strong>et</strong> <strong>le</strong>s corps en décomposition colmatent alors ces tuyaux. Un certain nombre de méthodes existent pour contrô<strong>le</strong>r ces populations : la régulation thermique ou l'ajout de produits chimiques <strong>dans</strong> <strong>le</strong>s tuyaux (chlorine ou bromine) pour tuer <strong>le</strong>s juvéni<strong>le</strong>s <strong>et</strong> parfois <strong>le</strong>s adultes.
