Dans un décor urbain d’arrière-cour, une jeune femme déguisée interprète
le rôle d’un biker qui rencontre une bibliothécaire auto-stoppeuse... Le
texte est mi-chanté, mi-joué, parfois lu car la jeune femme ne connaît pas
son texte et doit s’interrompre pour le consulter. À plusieurs reprises elle
s’arrête et se pose des questions sur la mise en scène, rentre et sort du
champ, reprend depuis le début. MV
In some urban backyard, a young woman in costume plays the role
of a biker who meets a hitchhiking librarian. The text is half-sung,
half-acted and sometimes read, for the young woman has not
learnt her lines and has to stop to refer to them. She stops several
times and asks herself questions about the directing, leaves and reenters
the frame, starts again at the beginning. MV

Une jeune femme tente sans succès d’émerger d’une baignoire pleine de
gélules. Elle finit par s’effondrer à l’intérieur laissant le spectateur dans
le doute, est-elle toujours vivante ? Ce dernier est attiré par le mouvement
au centre qui n’est autre que la respiration du personnage. Le bruissement
des capsules et la tête hors des gélules donnent une impression
d’angoisse. Que symbolise cette jeune femme ? Le travail de Jeanne
Susplugas explore la surconsommation de médicaments en occident, leur
omniprésence dans la vie de tous les jours et ses multiples usages.
A young woman is unsuccessfully attempting to emerge from a
bathtub full of pills. In the end she collapses inside the tub and it is
unclear whether she is dead or alive. The viewer is drawn to the
movement in the center of the bathtub, which rises to the rhythm
of her breathing. The clicking sounds of the capsules and her
submerged head add to the feeling of anguish. What does this
young woman symbolize? Jeanne Susplugas’ work examines the
over-consumption of medicine in Western countries, exploring the
familiar presence in everyday life and their different uses.
