Cette année la Saison Vidéo poursuit sa prospection anglaise amorcée en 2005 et confirmée en 2006. Parmi
les films proposés, de nombreux viennent de Grande Bretagne. Les échanges avec ce pays ne se limitent pas
à la découverte de vidéos britanniques en France. Un programme français est ainsi présenté à Fabrica, Centre
d’Art à Brighton, ou encore diffusé sur tank.tv. L’élargissement du territoire s’étend aussi à la Belgique. Une
confrontation de vidéos d’étudiants des écoles des beaux-arts ERSEP et ERG se déroule à Tourcoing et
Bruxelles.
Pour mieux suivre l’élargissement de ce territoire de diffusion, cette nouvelle édition est désormais bilingue,
première étape d’une Saison Vidéo couvrant maintenant l’Eurorégion.
Parmi la multitude des films reçus, il est désormais établi que le monde a basculé avec le 11 septembre 2001.
Ce terrible attentat, les guerres qui suivirent ont marqué les esprits et un sentiment d’insécurité partagé se
généralise. Il s’inscrit dans les récents films produits.
Enfin émerge une nouvelle technique, celle de la prise de vue par téléphone portable d’où se décèle une
qualité d’images particulière. Certains films ont été sélectionnés cette année. Les prochaines éditions nous permettront
de suivre l’évolution de l’apparition de ce médium dans l’élaboration de films d’artistes.
This year the Video Season is continuing the survey of new English video art begun in 2005 and confirmed in
2006. Among the films being shown, many thus come from Great Britain. But the exchange goes beyond the
showing of British videos in France; a programme of French work is being presented at Fabrica, Brighton, and
on tank.tv. And the Season is also extending to Belgium, with a joint showing of videos by students from the
ERSEP and ERG art schools in Tourcoing and Brussels. To follow this process of expansion, this new edition will
be bilingual. It marks the first stage of a Season covering the Euroregion.
One clear conclusion from the many films received is that the world really did change on 11 September 2001.
That terrible attack and the wars that followed have created a widespread sense of insecurity, which informs
these recent videos.
Another noteworthy feature is the use of mobile phone cameras, which produce a very distinctive image quality.
A number of films selected this year were made using this technology. Future editions will reveal its evolution
as a medium for artists.
