La répétition de la vie de tous les jours et l’odyssée du “Moi” est reprise dans ce travail vidéo à travers l’ascension d’une immense dune de sable
fin à Death Valley, USA, servant d’allégorie aux combats et aux aléas de la vie. Les luttes des aspirations féminines, les buts et les sentiers de l’existence
se manifestent aussi sans cesse dans ce travail. C’est un paysage caractérisé par ses formes mouvantes : la nature éphémère des traces de
pas laissés est rapidement effacée par les vents épisodiques. Alors, les grains représentent des myriades d’existences, d’expériences et le temps
qui passe. Le bruit “diagetic” est manipulé, produisant une boucle continue représentative d’un environnement utérin et des battements de cœur
ou des traces de pas, augmentant ainsi la monotonie de l’odyssée elle-même. Le rythme de la vidéo permet des arrêts sur image qui renvoient à
la responsabilité du Moi (le reflet du progrès réalisé), tout en explorant aussi les possibilités conceptuelles du temps. RW
The repetitiveness of everyday life and the journey of “self” is reiterated in
this video work by the climbing of a giant soft sand dune in Death Valley,
USA, serving as an allegory for the struggles and unpredictability of life. The
striving of woman aspirations, goals and paths in life are also acknowledged
throughout this work. This is a landscape defined by its shifting form: the
temporary nature of footsteps one creates are quickly erased by transient
winds, and, where grains signify the myriads of lives, experiences and the
passing of time. Diagetic sound is manipulated, resulting in a continuous
loop cycle which is representative of a womb-like environment and heartbeat
or footsteps, thus, heightening the monotony of the journey itself. The
rhythm of the video allows for arrested pauses for the accountability of
self (on reflection of progress made), as well as exploring the conceptual
possibilities of time. RW
