138 ❚ 2013 프랑스문화예술연구 제<strong>43</strong>집 Saint-John Perse et Aimé Césaire JIN Jong-Hwa Saint-John Perse, qui est né en Guadeloupe en 1887, quitte définitivement son beau pays natal en 1899, après avoir passé son enfance princière “entourée de serviteurs et travailleurs de différentes races, d'origine caraïbe, africaine ou asiatique (Malabarais, Chinois, Annamites et Japonais).” Son royaume d'enfance antillaise l'ayant marqué profondément pour toute sa vie entière, il se reflète dans son univers poétique. Les images antillaises et l'oralité créole constituent l'essentiel de la poétique persienne. Ce Blanc créole, devenu un des poètes majeurs de la littérature française fait l'objet de la haine, du rejet, ou de l'imitation chez les écrivains de la littérature antillaise francophone. Aimé Césaire, père de la Négritude, s'exprime à l'égard de ce fils prestigieux de son île voisine: c'est “un grand poète”, mais un “béké”. Pour ce poète martiniquais, Saint-John Perse est un Prospero, alors que lui, il est un Caliban. Ce “nègre fondamental” s'engage dans une voie anticolonialiste en se faisant le porte-parole des colonisés malheureux. Alors la poésie est une “arme miraculeuse” pour ce nègre révolté. Mais, il cite un passage du poème Vents de ce béké essentiel dans sa pièce de théâtre Et les chiens se taisaient. En le plaçant dans un
