GHADERI-AZAR<br />

Born into a mo<strong>de</strong>st family in 1952 in Nagha<strong>de</strong>h In<br />

Kurdistan of Iran, Abdullah GHADEIR grew up the<br />

el<strong>de</strong>st of many brothers <strong>and</strong> sisters.<br />

After primary studies in Nagha<strong>de</strong>h, he went to high<br />

school in Ourmiah <strong>and</strong> graduated with a technical<br />

baccalauriat. Fortwo years he did his military service In<br />

the «Legions of Knowledge» as a teacher in the villages<br />

of the Alamoutdistrict (Ghazvin region). Then he atten<strong>de</strong>d<br />

the <strong>Institut</strong> <strong>de</strong>s Beaux-Arts of Tehran. His studies<br />

finished, he became a high school teacher in vanous<br />

establishments in his native town.<br />

Althe time ofthe revolutionary events in 1978, he linked<br />

up with the PDKI where he was very active nght up to<br />

his <strong>de</strong>ath; first, un<strong>de</strong>r cover, until the ousting of the<br />

Shah, then openly in the Nagha<strong>de</strong>h Committee, assuning<br />

numerous responsibilities with an exceptional<br />

talent.<br />

At the Vlllth congress of the PDKI, he was electedtothe<br />

Central Committee. The Political Bureau then <strong>de</strong>signated<br />

him as the European representative, a responslbl-<br />

IIty he assumed as of 1985. Atthe last Congress (1988),<br />

he continued In his functions.<br />

All those who knew him, whatever nationality they<br />

might be, noted his mo<strong>de</strong>sty, his listening capacity <strong>and</strong><br />

his great kindness.<br />

DR. FADEL RASSOUL<br />

Rassoul was born In Sulalmanlyeh In 1948, into a<br />

patriotic family. He finished his secondary studies in<br />

this town. In 1963, at the age of 15, he was Imprisoned<br />

<strong>and</strong>torturedforhls political acltlvltles.ln 1968-1969, he<br />

was the Secretary of the Stu<strong>de</strong>nt's Union of Iraqi<br />

Kurdlstan. At the same time as he was carrying on his<br />

studies in law <strong>and</strong> political science at the University of<br />

Bagdad, he began to write journalistically.<br />

At the beg Inning of the year 1970 he foun<strong>de</strong>d the<br />

Workers' Association of Iraqi Kurdistan, with the help of<br />

Chehabi Cheikh Nouri, another martyr of the Kurdish<br />

cause, <strong>and</strong> others. Right until the end of his studies in<br />

1978, he cl<strong>and</strong>estinely carried on his militant political<br />

actiVities<br />

In 1978, because of internal struggles among the<br />

Kurdish political parties, he left Iraqi Kurdlstan for<br />

Beirout, which, at the time was an important political<br />

thorough fare In the Middle East. For a time he worl
