United Nations Educational, Scientific<br />

and Cultural Organization. The targ<strong>et</strong> of<br />

the attack was Mr. Mohajerani.<br />

"We are looking into the protest and<br />

hope to reply,as soon as possible early<br />

next week," a ministry spokesman said.<br />

The Unesco building, he said, was<br />

covered by special international conventions<br />

and handled its own security.<br />

The official Iranian press agency,<br />

IRNA, reported Sunday that Mr. Mohajerani<br />

was assaulted by members of<br />

Iran's opposition Mujahidin Khalq organization.<br />

It ad<strong>de</strong>d that the minister<br />

had not been harmed.<br />

Trois nouvelles arrestations<br />

<strong>de</strong> dirigeants d'un parti pro-kur<strong>de</strong><br />

ANKARA, 30 mars (AFP) - Trois dirigeants du Parti <strong>de</strong> la Démocratie du Peuple (Ha<strong>de</strong>p,<br />

pro-kur<strong>de</strong>) ont été interpellés mardi matin par la police à Ankara, dans le cadre d'une procédure<br />

judiciaire engagée contre la plupart <strong>de</strong>s dirigeants <strong>de</strong> ce parti, a rapporté l'agence Anatolie.<br />

Sirri Sakik <strong>et</strong> Sedat Yurttas, <strong>de</strong>ux anciens députés, <strong>et</strong> Feridun Yazar, l'un <strong>de</strong>s avocats du parti, ont<br />

été arrêtés par la police anti-terroriste <strong>et</strong> seraient passibles <strong>de</strong> plus <strong>de</strong> 22 ans <strong>de</strong> prison en cas<br />

d'inculpation par la Cour <strong>de</strong> sûr<strong>et</strong>é <strong>de</strong> l'Etat d'Ankara (DGM), selon c<strong>et</strong>te source.<br />

Ahm<strong>et</strong> Turk <strong>et</strong> Abdullah Varli, <strong>de</strong>ux autres dirigeants du parti, avaient été arrêtés, puis libérés, la<br />

semaine <strong>de</strong>rnière, dans le cadre <strong>de</strong> la même enquête.<br />

Sept dirigeants du Ha<strong>de</strong>p, dont son prési<strong>de</strong>nt Murat Bozlak, avaient été inculpés il y a <strong>de</strong>ux<br />

semaines sous l'accusation d'être la branche politique du Parti <strong>de</strong>s Travailleurs du Kurdistan (PKK,<br />

séparatiste).<br />

Les dirigeants du Ha<strong>de</strong>p sont accusés "d'avoir agi <strong>et</strong> tenu <strong>de</strong>s propos en faveur du PKK",ce qui les<br />

rend passibles d'au moins 22 ans <strong>de</strong> prison, selon l'article 125 du co<strong>de</strong> pénal turc.<br />

Le PKK est en rébellion armée contre Ankara pour créer un Etat kur<strong>de</strong> indépendant dans le sud-est<br />

<strong>de</strong> la Turquie.<br />

Le Ha<strong>de</strong>p avait obtenu quelque 4,5% <strong>de</strong>s voix aux <strong>de</strong>rnières élections législatives en décembre 1995,<br />

mais n'avait pu être représenté au parlement, faute d'avoir atteint la barre <strong>de</strong>s 10% <strong>de</strong>s voix à<br />

l'échelon national requis par la loi électorale.<br />

Le Ha<strong>de</strong>p avait succédé au Parti <strong>de</strong> la Démocratie (Dep), dissous en 1994pour activités séparatistes.<br />

Quatre anciens députés du Dep purgent actuellement <strong>de</strong>s peines <strong>de</strong> 15 ans <strong>de</strong> prison pour<br />

"appartenance" au PKK, dont Mme Leyla Zana, à qui le parlement européen avait décerné en 1996<br />

son prix Sakharov pour la liberté d'expression.<br />
