Court
• Prosecutor: 'The party aims to destroy the integrity of the nation by protecting, developing and spreading
cultures and languages other than Turkish language and culture'
Ankara - Turkish Daily News
Democratic Mass Party (DKP) Chairman Serafettin Eiei, defending his party in its closure case, testified at the
Constitutional Court along with his party's deputy general chairmanon Tuesday.
After Eiei gaye his testimony, he explained that their defense rested on the facts that the DKP respected the unity of
charges and that he had directed unfair, mistaken accusations towards the DKP. He stated: "Showing the people of
the Southeast as a mass under the control of the PKK is a very unfortunate evaluation. The prosecutor contributed
to the propaganda of the PKK with his statements", the Anatolia news agency reported.
On the other hand, the chief prosecutor of the Court of Appeals demanded in his allegations the closure of the
party with the charge that the party aims to destroy the integrity of the nation by means of protecting, developing
and spreading cultures and languages other than Turkish language and culture. The chief prosecutor claimed that
the DKP also aimed at changing the main principles of the Constitution and causing the country to be based on
regional and racial charaCteristic by creatingminorities on Turkish soil. The chief prosecutor demanded the closure
of the party for the speeches of partyadministrators, which he claimed were contrary to the Political Parties Law.
