Pauline Green, is paymg a visit to<br />

Turkey to increase the dialogue<br />

b<strong>et</strong>ween Western European states<br />

and Ankara. "We aim to observe<br />

<strong>de</strong>velopments in Turkish-European<br />

Parliament relations," Green told<br />

reporters in Istanbul on Thursday.<br />

nongovernmental organizations,<br />

including human rights groups, in<br />

IstanbuL Prime Minister Necm<strong>et</strong>tin.<br />

Erbakan and other ministers will<br />

receive the <strong>de</strong>legation on Friday.<br />

The same <strong>de</strong>legation last )'ear visited<br />

the South East to investigate the<br />

ongoing bloody conflict b<strong>et</strong>ween<br />

Turkish armed forces and the separatist<br />

Kurdistan Workers' Party<br />

(PKK). "We are making periodic<br />

yisits to closely observe <strong>de</strong>velop-<br />

. ments in the human rights issue, and<br />

the <strong>de</strong>mocratization process. This<br />

year we are visiting only the western<br />

cities, such as Istanbul and Ankara,"<br />

said a member of <strong>de</strong>legation.<br />

The <strong>de</strong>legation later visited the<br />

Turkish Industrialists' and<br />

Businessmen's Association<br />

(TÜSIAD), and the left-wing<br />

Progressive Labor Unions<br />

Confe<strong>de</strong>ration (DISK'). Then it m<strong>et</strong><br />

with editors of manymedia establishments;<br />

The <strong>de</strong>legation leaves Turkey on<br />

Saturday after holding me<strong>et</strong>,ings<br />

with representatives of civic initiatives<br />

and political circles through<br />

three days in Istanbul and Ankara.<br />

Dutch parliamentarian Gijs De Vries<br />

affinned on Thursday, "Turkey is a<br />

very important partner of the EU."<br />

and another member of that group,<br />

Alexan<strong>de</strong>r Beels, arrived in the capital<br />

on Wednesday to evaluate'the<br />

customs union situation and said<br />

outcome of the recent EU ministers'<br />

me<strong>et</strong>ing in Apeld,?orn, the Anatolia<br />

news agency reported. ..<br />

The Dutch parliamentarians also<br />

pointed out Turkey's importance as<br />

a stable factor in the Middle East,<br />

along with Israel. De Vries m<strong>et</strong> in<br />

De Vries and Beels will continue<br />

talks in Istanbul following ~ official<br />

welcome by Prime minister<br />

Necm<strong>et</strong>tin Erbakan and Foreign<br />

Minister Tansu Çiller in Ankara.<br />
