‘Father impregnates daughter’: reads a headline. The story was first reported<br />
by the Daily Guide Newspaper. A 38 year old father living in an<br />
Accra suburb was arrested and detained by the police after he had repeatedly<br />
raped his 20-year-old daughter resulting in a two months pregnancy.<br />
He got his way by threatening the victim with a knife.<br />

Another headline reads ‘Farmer jailed 10 years for defiling class three<br />
pupil’. This is a Ghana News Agency (GNA) report dated 8 Feb. 2010.<br />
In it a 25-year-old man based in the Central Region of Ghana was alleged<br />
to have raped a 10-year-old school girl. He managed to do this by<br />
sending the victim to buy him kenkey and on the girl’s return he asked<br />
her to bring the food into to his bedroom. 1 As the victim entered he<br />
locked the door and forcibly had sexual intercourse. The victim’s<br />
screaming attracted neighbours.<br />
‘50-year-old man impregnates 14-year-old foster child’ is the title of a<br />
rape story published by Joy FM radio on 16 Feb. 2010. It is an interesting<br />
and illuminating story.<br />
50-year-old man accused of impregnating a 14-year-old foster child in<br />
his care. The man .. had attempted to terminate the pregnancy. He is<br />
said to have regularly defiled the minor for the past six years since he<br />
adopted her and then given her a substance known as “magic moments”<br />
to terminate her pregnancy. The victim’s teacher, .. who lodged<br />
the complaint with DOVVSU, told Joy News ... she had earlier warned<br />
the child not to consume the concoction given her by her foster father.<br />
Meanwhile, the decision by the school authorities to lodge a complaint<br />
with DOVVSU has angered the chief of the town, [who] .. in a fit of<br />
anger has reportedly asked [the teacher] ... and the headmistress of the<br />
school to leave the town for reporting the incident to DOVVSU.<br />
